Tesla Model 3 faster?

How did I just get walked away from by a Model 3 in my 650i??? We both were taking a turn onto an empty road and we started off evenly, but he just passed me with ease. My car was in sport plus mode and transmission in sport mode also. Am I missing something? I know my car is heavier but I should have a huge power advantage. I'm sure he's bragging right now wherever Tesla drivers brag

The Performance model will do 0 - 60mph in about 3.3 seconds, I believe... substantially quicker than the 650 (4.3 seconds). Electric cars are incredibly quick to 60 but will then tend to taper off as you reach over 100 - 120mph. Unless you're endurance racing (several laps or more on a track) or spending quite a lot of time above 100mph, you're not likely to beat one.

The 6 series is a quick car, but I wouldn't go racing many people in it. 450hp is a decent amount of power, but the weight of the 6-series is a huge disadvantage. I certainly wouldn't go racing any Teslas.

Watch the YouTube videos, they will walk away from just about anything on the street off the line. Stay clear my friend.

They are pretty fast but that is their only claim-in situations like that. You should go check out a model 3 if that is what you would like-however; you may prefer the interior of your car, the sound, the feel, etc.

Or, get a tune and get faster.

Electric motors have instantaneous full torque. You car has to build up to full torque. But depending on the model, Teslas are Ferrari beaters.

The Model 3 is the baby of the Tesla bunch. The sedan Model S in P90D or P100D with Ludicrous mode updated software are clocking 2.9 0-60 times. The Model X SUV in P90D or P100D with Ludicrous mode are clocking 2.8. Basically, all wheels have all power immediately. That is Porsche 911 Turbo fast. Wicked fast.

They’re fast, and I like the Model S and X, but the 3 is just not an attractive car in my eyes. It’s like a squashed model X and S combined.

Model 3 is way more attractive for me than the X. The X is IMHO easily one of the ugliest vehicles currently on the road.

Just watched the latest episode of Top Gear where they compared the Tesla 3 to the M3, Alfa Guilia QP, and MB C63 AMG. It smoked them all 0-60, 1/4 mile and even edged them in the 1/2 mile. Even did better on the small autocross. Chris Harris said it cornered poorly, but the acceleration is nuts, which is why it won all the tests.

No way a big 6 will beat a Tesla 3 so don't even attempt it. Enjoy the 6 for what it really is.

I wouldn't be at all concerned about being cut up by one of those heinously awful Tesla. Did it burst into flames afterwards? they have a habit of doing that in carparks...
Our 650's sound amazing, perform beautifully as intended GT cruisers and they look yearningly sexy from any angle, this should be more than enough to keep you comfortably aloof from any of those smug electric car driving kibble munching twats.... that a Tesla can beat you 0-100Klms in a straight-line do you really care?
park them side by side and id wager what someone/anyone rather have....
I rather enjoy having people try to induce me to rip off at the lights. I simply let them go in a cloud of smoke and noise, I don't even register as I waft along in serene comfort on a tidal wave of mellifluous V8 double blown torque. Its very intoxicating and gives me infinitely more pleasure knowing its frustrated the hell out of them that I haven't bothered to acknowledge them and don't have anything to prove.
be comfortable in the knowledge that there is actually very little that can outperform our cars on the road save some supercars and fettled street racer things....
happy motoring and avoid Teslas in carparks....they spontaneously combust

Haha, I'm the person going off the lights in smoke and noise I annoyed a Model 3 today that was next to me at the lights when I won quite convincingly. No idea what model it was but he tried to go for it and I just left him standing, I suspect it was a RWD model.

Wait. What? You guys are saying that a 650 has a 0-60 time only one tenth of a second slower (4.3) than an M6 at 4.2 seconds?

Depending on what M6 version the number can change a bit, the 600ps Comp Pack M6 is rated at 3.8s and the slowest would be the M6 Vert 560ps which is 4.3s but that will vary so much depending on tyres and road surface. I honestly don't think I would have been able to get below 4.5s regularly when I had PZeros but I've go under 4.0s a bunch of times with PS4S tyres.

The original 300kw 650i was rated at 4.8s with xdrive, the 330kw version was rated at 4.3s with xdrive which seems like quite a big difference, perhaps they were being more aggressive with the numbers. But I am absolutely sure that the 650i xdrive will be much more consistent than an M6

So what I'm hearing is that (assuming PS4S all around and all other conditions being equal) the extra 125HP and 100 ftlb of torque in an M6 are meaningless?

Not at all. 0-60 isn't the end of the world. Even then its a mixed bag with tires, drivers, CP-Non CPm conditions, etc

Indeed, in fact once you're in second gear the M6 will be a lot faster. The M6 also has many other improvements with brakes, suspension, the carbon roof, etc

So, launch in 2nd gear, look for headlights in rear view mirror. Check.

Getting off the line in 2nd may be about the same in the wet but it will be slower in the dry up to about 20mph.
