corrosion on rim bead location

I tend to thank my lucky stars that I do not have to drive on salty roads here in Houston but recently I started loosing air on one of my rear tires. I replaced both rear tires (They were a bit worn) thinking the tires were the cause. The not to be names tire shop replaced both rear tires but did not tell me that there was severe corrosion on one of the rims and to a lesser extent on the other. Both are powder coated 601s. What was most surprising was the depth of the corrosion. The only area that was corroded was exactly where the bead seals.
The is no corrosion anywhere else. (Replaced Michelin Sport Pilots with 4S)

Has anyone else had similar experience?

Sorry that I forgot to take pictures.
