Are you disappointed with your base sound system?

Hey guys so I am considering a pre owned 6 series and I would like to know hod do you rate your base sound system, compare to HK or BO?
does it make a HUGE difference?

I haven't heard any upgraded systems but my base stereo isn't very impressive. I'd say its just like any other modern car out there.

Adjusting the equalizer did make a big difference though.

I don't have the base systems rather the BO system. I can tell you that it is the best system I have every owned. Sound is phenomenal... If you are into audio - seek the BO out.... Having said that - you an always retrofit with something better than base...

I have B&O in my f13, but my wife's f10 has the base sound system. The B&O is noticeably flatter and distorts less at higher volumes, but the base sound system is great. Don't go out of your way to get B&O, it's not any better than ~$700 home audio system.

This is also how I feel. I don't have upgraded sound in my F12 650i, but it's "good enough for me". Also, being a vert, I seem to have more tolerance for noise in general (rightly, or wrongly...).

If it were in a car, I would consider it a nice perk; however, I wouldn't go out of my way for it the way I would avoid a 640 to get the 650i.

I had the standard BMW loudspeaker system in my 2012 car which I thought was great. My new 2015 GC has Harmon Kardon but to my ears, it is not noticeably any better.

thank you for you comment btw aren't you worried about the reliability when the car goes out of warranty?

sound systems are a matter of personal taste - audiophiles will tell you every stock car system sucks. So will hip hop and rap fans. I'm not an audiophile or a rap/hip hop fan. I have no experience with the B&O or the base system, but the HK system is just OK for me.

I have said it before and will say it again, others will disagree, but i wound not spend 4k on the B&O unless the car had it fitted, simple fact of the matter is that its a 5yr old set now, 4k on aftermarket system will easily better the B&O in my view.

I had the H&K a few months ago in a 7series loan car and id say it was as good as the B&O in my M6.

I have B&O in my GC. I can't compare it with base or HK but as a musician (pianist) and audiophile I say it's good enough for a car, especially with high volume the sound doesn't distort and is crisp and clear.
Obviously it's not a crappy audio system, you can clearly listen the difference between a 320kbps .mp3 and a 24 bit/192Khz .flac
A down note is that with flat equalizer bass tend to be a little bit aggressive, this is why I usually stay 1 to 2 notches under the default setting.

Note: my used car comes with B&O, but it wasn't a prerogative before buying.

I'm in a 2017 530i loaner right now with the base system. Only 4500 miles on the car and the woofers already sound blown, it's a truly horrible sound system.

I have the B&O on my '14 650i coupe and it sounds good. Nothing amazing at low volumes but it hits decently hard at high volumes and most importantly can go LOUD without distortion. I made only a few EQ tweaks to get it where I liked it (and turned off the extended mode).

The B&O system hits just hard enough where it's not worth the hassle to install a sub box/amp. I can't speak for the base system on the 6, but there haven't been many complaints that I've seen on the forums. I wouldn't stress it if you can't find a used 6 with B&O included, although I hunted for it specifically. The 2015 models all have the HK system as base, but I could never find out if it was a true upgrade or just rebadged speaker grills.

Hahaha! Same too I can also afford it. You can't run a car like this, a 70 grand motor in the UK and worry about warranty lol. If you can't afford the repair bills and running a monster motor then run a 5 series on lease....
