BMW Roundel / Badge
Is there a guide anywhere as to how these are removed?
thinking about these, as the car is black trimmed, the diffuser is going the same way when i replace the exhausts at the weekend https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Full-Blac....c100005.m1851 have also noticed the vinyl overlays, any have experience of either. im not 100% either will be of any quality to be honest https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HOLRE...3-fb850e7a448e

The hood Roundel's removal is the same that it's been since the late 70s when BMW went to the 82mm one used on 98% of BMWs since that time. You just take prying tool (and something to protect the paint) and pry/lift the Roundel off the hood.
There are two nibs (at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions) that secure the Roundel to the hood...and there are also two rubber grommets. If you want to make sure that you don't lose your new Roundel...consider buying two new grommets...if not, it's like reusing a condom...it's not going to have the same efficacy the 2nd time around. Off the top of my head...I don't have a good mental grip of the trunk's Roundel on the F06/F12/F13 to see if it is sitting on a base or is it the same size or a smaller version of the hood Roundel. If it's like the hood Roundel...then it will pry off the same way. If it is attached to a base...then you may have a slightly different removal procedure. Are you sure this hasn't been discussed before? I'm relatively new to the F06...so some of the past common things like this isn't in my mental Rolodex. EDIT: I just put my VIN into the part database to pull up the emblems diagrams...and the F06 GC uses the same 82mm Roundel for the hood and the trunk...so the removal procedure will be the same. Does the F12/F13 have a smaller trunk Roundel? {I recommend replacing the grommets if they are the original and older than 1 yr}

Don't use a pry tool - way too easy to damage the paint and if you're roundel is adhered with 2-sided tape it can be really difficult to take off.
Best tool to use is a plastic/nylon band. Think of a box of copier paper - the white or yellow band that goes around the box is what you want to use. This video will show you the technical. |

I've used superwrappz and arcaneautostore for overlays a few times and they are pretty decent....see bonnet and boot overlays attached-excuse dirty car ....you normally get whole kit so you can do steering wheel and wheel hubs too.....for £10 its an inexpensive makeover and you can soon upgrade to overall replacement if not happy

As noted above, I've removed many over the years using nothing but a redundant plastic store card and a couple of plastic cable ties.
Use the card to gently pry up one side of the badge until you can thread the plastic cable tie under. Then simply jiggle and pull up using the cable tie (or ties, if you can't be bothered to keep moving it from one side of the badge to the the other). ALWAYS buy new rubber grommets though, as whilst the old badge will be stuck in, the rubber grommets dry out and won't hold the new badge as securely. |
