This might help - not sure if your trying to remove the airbag, change the steering wheel or just looking to change badges..

I'm sure my old E46 had prong plastic tabs holding it in position, just try with a credit card and see if it flips out. If your worried about marking the airbag, put a peice of tape down where you intend to lever.
It's either got some plastic tabs behind or is glued in place. |

Personally...I would never put anything over the BMW Roundel on the airbag if it was anything more than a peel-n-stick sticker (which I still wouldn't do personally)...because anything heavier or substantial can become a flying object that could do serious damage (perhaps even death) if the airbag was to ever deploy.
That is the reason the air bag Roundel is anchored...it has been engineered to withstand the velocity when the airbag deploys. If something is just stuck to the existing emblem...and the airbag deploys (I think at something like 200 MPH toward the driver)...if you have a metal emblem that is adhered to the existing emblem...it could fly off and hit or embed itself in your face/eye/neck etc and blind you or cut the artery in your neck. The question to ask...is a vanity emblem worth possible bodily harm if the air bag deploys? Last edited by Qsilver7; 12-24-2017 at 07:46 PM.. |

Ditto this, years ago i dented my badge when horning, BMW refused to sell me any emblem due to the above reason, i managed to sort of fix it by sucking the dents out with a strong vacuum |
