Oil level sensor

yesterday I drove 20 minutes, I launch an oil level and I got almost max just below the max.
20 minutes after I came back at home. I let the car about 25/30 minutes I ran again for 20 minutes I go back at home I let the car 20 minutes and I launch an oil level and I got just above the low level.
Very curious no?

Yesterday when I drove the car got a new message warning add oil ( the message was in running not at stop) (I was driving during long time 1hour and half so the temperature motor was fine just in the middle

I stop the car 5minutes later I go out to the car during 10 minutes and launch a mesure, surprise I see the oil level near from max.

I restart the car and drive during 20 minutes and again message need to add oil, I drove 20 minutes and when I was at home I launch the oil level and see oil 1 bar up the minimum oil level.
I think I got a problem with my oil sensor cause I see no oil leak and I got not smoke on the exhaust (except at cold and when the weather is cold or rainy)
It's complicate to change the oil level sensor or how much to pay in a concession bmw?
And where I can order the part?
Regards

The gasoline engines used in the f06/f12/f13 6 series don’t have a dipstick. You can use one of the online part database sites to see that there are multiple diesel engined BVMW models that use the same dipstick...but they are all diesels: https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/parts/i...3536/appliance

I got a 640i not a 640d
I made 2000 kms and need to add 1 liter I got the message on the screen.
But I will check again with right temperature I mean after running and would add 1/4 until I got the good level cause don't know if my oil sensor is ok or not.
I got no oil leak.
Really don't know
My car got 160000 kms

Strange behavior indeed. Make sure to check the oil level on a flat surface when the car is level.

Other things to consider: How old is the oil? Are there other issues with the engine? Oil viscosity?

My recommendation: Add half a quart to see if the "low oil" message returns. If it does, add another half. Drive it until you need an oil change. During the oil change, note how much oil is drained. Fill with the proper amount of oil and see if the "low oil" message returns.

My reply was to rasa...I edited my post to add his quote so that it is clearer as to what I was injecting into the thread's discourse.

Yep...totally agreed. There have been times that were perfect for checking the oil level...but couldn't because the engine wasn’t warmed up yet. So I have to get in and when I get to where I’m going...I’ve forgotten that I wanted to check the oil.

With a dipstick....you can quickest check the oil level in no time flat. Even when the engine is warmed up...it takes time for the car to rev the engine and measure the oil...its not convenient and kind of time consuming.

Totally stupid design and concept. The idiot that came up with this design...as well as the one that approved it...should give back their salary to BMW.
