BMW S63TU M5 M6 FABWORX downpipes install- Complete DIY

Full instructional Video (Including special tools, parts, torque specs and skill level) on how to replace the downpipes on an M6. Its the same procedure for an M5 and very similar to an N63. Feel free to comment opinions or questions.

Special tools:
Torque wrench, stubby 6 mm allen and multimeter, E-Torx sockets

Parts:
Downpipe to exhaust gasket ring- (2) 18307843213
Turbo charger to downpipe gasket ring- (2)
Downpipe to exhaust nuts- (4)18307597650

Torque specs:
Turbo to downpipe V-band-19mn
Downpipe to exhaust nuts- 21nm.

Skill level: (1 easiest, 5 hardest) 2

Nice job ! but you didn't show how to reinstall the 2 gaskets underneath on the downpipes and whats the torque value of the copper nuts that hold the mid pipe to the downpipe bracket.Ok I see the values in your list

Like you said I did mine with the DMEs in place bungee cords holding them open to the hood shocks worked great ,I didn't remove the PCV valves or the power steering reservoir,I was scared to remove the DMEs lol,looked like so many plugs

That was a good idea for the heat shield,I ran into that problem but I just cut the bottom of the cup off and reinstalled it just to look like its in there threaded the 02 sensor directly into the downpipe , I might get a turbo blanket for that spot anyway

Those bottom nuts I didn't know the torque value,so to compress the new gasket it feels like its getting tight and I was nervous I would snap one of the studs ,but I kept going equal on each side until they were snug you can feel them bottom out < i will retorque them when I change my oil next time

I never changed the gaskets in the turbo housing ,I didn't even know they were there ,I guess they just pop out and press new ones in there??

Hi Whipple! Yes, When I worked at the dealer there were people who would leave the DME's in, Both ways work. If you take DME's out its a bit more comfortable.

I will provide those part #'s tomorrow!
Yes, they slide out easily- with a hand pick you can pull them out and pop the new ones in.

Yes that would be great help the community out with the vids , I know there is some specialty tools needed but you listed them with parts part #s to make it much easier, If you can do vids on all required maintenance stuff that would be awesome., Spark plugs and coil packs , Brake pads and brake fluid flush , engine oil and filter , transmission Full service , rear diff oil change , how to change antifreeze just a few that are on my mind

Keep the ideas coming! I'm all about taking instructional videos, I recently changed my niche at the shop to only servicing BMW's & MINI's so ill have a lot more time to shoot and edit.
