Camera System Fault

Recently started having the "movie projector" symbol and triangle come on for Camera System when car is in reverse.

The camera/screen is fully functional. The fault goes away when put in drive.

Any ideas? Looking for a reason to replace the rear trunk lid badge anyway.

Can you post a pic of the movie projector symbol and triangle? Is it showing in the instrument cluster display or the iDrive screen or both?

The movie projector symbol is not "ringing a bell" for me right now...but I can think of two different "triangles"...one can appear if the camera picks up cross traffic (or something similar)...and then there's the Check Control system's triangle that can appear.

EDIT: when you say "movie projector symbol...are you referring to the highlighted icon on the upper left in the 1st pic below? If yes, that icon allows you to do a quick switch between the rear view camera and the side view (panoramic-all-around) cameras. If the icon has a red check symbol...then it will show the rear view cam...if you UNCHECK that icon (by pressing downward on the iDrive control knob) the cam view will change to the pano/side view cameras (see 2nd pic below).

Being able to quickly switch between the rear & side view cams is helpful when backing into a parking space. You can use the rearview to guide you into the space, and the side view cams to make finer adjustments within the parking lines.

Whoa...the warnings in that location are from the Check Control System which means that something is registering a fault. I was totally in the wrong area...thanks for posting the pics.

If you go into the Vehicle Status screen in iDrive (the same screen with the TPMS & oil level check info) and scroll down to the check control Triangle icon...do you get any other info if you click that icon when you have the triangle warning in the instrument cluster?

There is no stored code in that section. The error goes away after I put it in drive. The camera is fully functional as well. I don't have a scan tool to check for stored codes.

Update: washed the car. Error seems to have gone away. Didn't think it was that dirty...

Update 2: it is back, but camera is functional. The triangle goes away after driving and nothing shows up.

Probably is the motor inside camera and badge mechanism that open the badge. It failed and the system store code error. I disassebeled mine and give little motor like tou t guy who oppened and soldered disconected area . There is no motor separately only whole part for about 400 usd the motor cost 5 usd.

Funny enough, after another car wash, no longer getting the error.

We have been having mixed weather with a lot of salt on the roads

If this goes away in the spring/summer, I hope another motor is not needed.

Update: clean car, sunshine and no codes.
