I see that all F13 come with 704 M sport suspension as standard, but that the M sport adds the 223 dynamic damper control.

Car is a 2014 640i Coupe M Sport

Does this mean it has both?

I haven’t driven it yet but if it’s anything like my F10 535, (223 dynamic damper control only) I can probably expect a little disappointment.

The interior/overall quality of the 6er is much better all round than say a F32 4 series. The price points are all similar, so I’m leaning towards a 640i. I do understand these are not entirely sport coupes and are very heavy.

Looking to test drive one soon so I can compare to my F10.

Any feedback on how yours is appreciated of if you have any direct comparisons to the F10 would be appreciated as well. Thank you.

You can decode the VIN online on a number of VIN decoder sites. I always thought they all had dynamic dampers, and that was not an MSport feature. If you decide the VIN, it will list dynamic dampers separately UNLESS the car also has active sway bars (fairly rare). In that case, both features are combined under the single name of Adaptive Drive.

I already decoded it. No mention of 704 anywhere but again it lists this standard on MY14 ordering guide

No one here can confirm if their M pack F13 has 704 suspension?

I'd need to see the 2014 Ordering guide again...because I thought the 704 M sport suspension was a conventional system that uses regular shocks that are designed for a lowered sport suspenion.

When you change to the DDC (s223/EDC)...you go from conventional shocks/suspension to an electronically adjustable front/rear shock setup.

When you add the DHP pkg (dynamic handling pkg)...then you add ARS to the EDC (or sometims called DDC) shocks.

Can you post were you see that the 2014 6 series comes with the 704 M-suspension? Again, the years are moving by and all the little things are getting harder to remember.

That is what I thought (704 was a conventional system) and in the F10 it was one or the other (704 or EDC and/or + DHP)

This ordering guide for a 2014 640i shows both 704 and 223 as standard.

Some admittedly cursory research seems to confirm what QSilver said - that 704 has no electronic controls at all. So if decoding the VIN shows DDC, then I don't think you have 704. They seem to be mutually exclusive. But that obviously does not explain your ordering guide.

Thanks for posting the guide. Yeah...that is interesting.

Again, the 704 M sport suspension is usually a conventional sport-tuned setup. I wonder if on the F chassis 6 series...since the S223 (DDC) shocks were standard...if the listing of the 704 suspension refers to some other part of that system still being used...like the guide supports, or upper/lower spring pads, or coil springs etc.

Or is that a typo...or is there an exclusion listed in the notes at the bottom of the ordering guide?

Yes very strange.
I think once I’ll test drive it, I’ll be able to easily compare it to my F10, which only has DDC.

Checking the guide again, no comments on the bottom regarding either options. Even more interesting for the M Sport edition package (ZMS), there is also no mention for 223 or 704.

When decoding the vin, also no mention of 223 or 704.

Maybe the f13 does in fact have some form of both.
