New to me 2014 650i, Preventative Maintenance
Hi all,
New to 6post but a long time e46er. I am going to pick up a new to me 2014 650i M Sport today with 52k on the clock. I know it has the N63TU engine but what do I need to do as preventative maintenance??? I was looking at 90c thermostat as I am in Texas and don't see that much cold other than a few weeks each year. I am also going to do a fresh oil change with an analysis. Finally, I got the Bimmercode app to add psi reading on my tires and mess around with the iDrive. Anything else? Any recommendations for PM? When do you do coils and plugs? What should I look out for? Thanks in advance and I am glad to see a strong forum for the 6 Series! |

What you do depends on what was done before. If I had no evidence that it ever had plugs then I would do those. And check filters - engine and cabin air if they are dirty. I would flush the brake fluid it it has not been done in two years. I would also give the suspension a thorough inspection. A heavy car will start to take a toll on its bushings around those miles. Otherwise, give it a real good inspection for leaks, etc.

Hopefully your new 6er has been looked after properly and maintained to correct OEM specifications either by a dealer or reputable specialist. It’s service history is very important as there are indeed items that need to be addressed on a time basis. The service history hopefully comes with the car and I believe it should be programmed in your cars keys fobs. Perhaps call into a BMW dealer and have them download your cars details and service history so you know where to start from. Enjoy! |

Thanks for the information! I was able to stop by the dealership and it looks like two of the injectors were recently replaced under warranty and the CCV hose was replaced under a recall around 30k. I also had a chance to drive to Houston 250 miles each way. The car was amazing but something is still up with the engine. At highway speed cruising it is smooth, but under slight to medium acceleration, it stumbles quite a bit. No CEL even though I tried to get one. It feels like a tire is badly out of balance when accelerating. When I let off the gas it is smooth as glass. It idles and starts well. Any ideas? Should I take it to the dealer and ask for them to replace the rest?

I would suspect the wheel vibrations if at certain speeds and not consistently happening are the dreaded run flats . Ditch them as soon as possible and you will expirence pure delight and transformation. I would certainly take Opies advice and have a BMW tech ride with you and trouble shoot slight issues. I’m sure it’s minor. Good luck an enjoy your beautiful 6er! |
