Randy Pobst set a 1:30.66 in an M6 GC and the new M8 Coupe is almost 0.5 sec slower.

I was a bit surprised about this, obviously I'm going to be biased for the M6 but the only other times I could find where the cars had been on the same track on fastest laps is:

Autozeitung 1:37.80 vs 1:41.40 for the M8 GC vs M6 GC
Inta 1:08.37 vs 1:11.46 M8 Coupe vs M6 GC
Figure 8 23.30 vs 24.40 M8 Coupe vs M6 Coupe
Sachsenring 1:31.33 vs 1:36.20 M8 Coupe vs M6 Coupe

So overall there is about a 3% speed improvement for the M8 over the M6. I'm not sure why at Willow the M8 didn't do so well.

I am even more surprised it was the GC that beatthe coupe, simply on 4 door vs 2 door.

The M6 is nowhere near as close to being as fast as the M8. I had a M6GC and it's not remotely close to being as fast as my F90 M5....still a great car, though.

Indeed! And how many of us has been anywhere near the edge of the M6 performance envelope? Except for traffic light drag race...

As far as I'm concerned, the performance gains have become meaningless to what I think 99% of us, so other factors are more important...

Overall, just "bragging rights" for track times that folks wouldn't even come close to hitting themselves. A big GT car on the track isn't likely to happen. The performance gains become conversation points, or traffic light launches.

Same, it's almost guaranteed that the M8 will outperform the M6 with better tech, 4wd, and comparable suspension. Unsure why it was slower on this particular track, but that could come down to a variety of factors including driver's performance that given day.

Side note: Love watching Randy drive and talk about cars. If you guys aren't familiar, he did a view videos on a channel called VinWiki that are very entertaining.

Randy is awesome. Don't know why his lap with the new M8 is slower than the M6GC. But he's still awesome. He was ranting and raving about the M6GC. Didn't do much on the M8.

Comparison-wise, the M8GC weighs 50 lbs more than the M6GC but also makes 40hp
and 50 lb-ft of torque more. The M8GC is 105 lbs heavier than the F90 M5.

What is great here is how many deserted roads with corners we have. You haven't done Taihape to Napier, Opotiki to Gisborne and many many other roads. I've averaged 130kmh from the start of the rural area to the start of the town on both of those and you actually can push the car hard in 3rd and 4th the whole way through.

You get signs like this and might see 2 cars in that 50km drive. The only issue with these drives in my C63 was averaging 20-25l/100km and nearly running out of petrol

Ha, any kiwi police men here... 😂😇

Same in Tasmania, I could move there simply because of the roads, but would probably need a bit smaller car as the M6 feels B I G on those twisty roads...

What were the weather conditions though? Could easily be the difference. Don't get me wrong, I would love the M6 to be quicker
