2013 650ix Slight Oil Leak on top of engine

I've been getting a slight oil leak on top of my 2013 650ix engine and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what's going on. The pictures show the results of the leak after around 1,000 miles of operation. I can't see where it is actually coming from. The car has 30,000 miles. Thanks for any help you can provide.

By the looks of it, the oil has migrated to that location by running down that flat silver bracket where the round nub is to hold your engine cover. If you are sure it's engine oil, and it sure looks to be, then pretty much the only place it can be coming from that high on the engine is a line to/from the turbos. Get yourself a bright led flashlight and maybe even a dental-type mirror and carefully check all the lines/junctions near the turbos.

Had the exact same problem. The issue is you have a small crack in the cheap crappy original plastic turbo air lines/vent pipes. Bmw now swaps them to full rubber. The original are basically crap wire loom, they crack because of the turbo heat. Mine actually split completely. Took a little work but bmw Canada paid for the swap, the bill was $1200.

Original vs new

The vent line more aft looks like is listed on real.oem as part of a kit. The fore line looks like a stand alone formed hose.

Does anyone know if just the hose can be obtained ?
They both appear to be superseded to rubber hoses.

AccordTR,

So I started dicking around with those plastic tubes and the just moved the one that broke on you car and and mine just snapped in two also. While yours was on the left and mine was on the right side of the engine. See pic.

So from the parts description it looks like that tube is a crankcase vent tube so I guess it's under very little pressure. I'm going to try a jury rig patch to see if I can get away without replacing it for now.

The car is a 2013 so it's way out of warranty.

From the 5 Series Forum here:

Crank case ventilation hose. Should be covered by a 10 year 120k extended warranty.

https://testing-public.carmd.com/Tsb...0B01%2012%2018

My car is covered. Outstanding

So prior to taking the car to a local dealership I detailing to them what the problem was with the vent line and directed them to the warranty extension of 10 years and 120K miles for the part and made an appointment.

First thing the Service Advisor says is that BMW says the part has a 7 year warranty and that my car 2013 650 is out of that warranty. This is why I hate dealership service departments. If I were John Q. Public, first I wouldn't have even known about the warranty extension and if I didn't know the details I would have "probably" been charged for the repair.

I told the SA that he was flat out wrong and to look up the actual document. So he did and came back with "Oh yea, the warranty is for 10 years, so it's covered.

Anyway the two lines were replaced and problem solved. See arrows:

Is this warranty extension by default on these parts or something you pay for extra on an extended warranty?

Click the link in post #7 that Walt posted (there are 8 pages about this warranty extension from BMW)...and you'll see what/who/when is covered by this BMW extended warranty.

I'm assuming the 6 cylinder N55 doesn't have this problem or isn't covered?

Different engine so different hoses. Your turbos are not on top where they can cook those hoses.
