Changing BMW M6 Gran Coupe Grill to newer version

Hey guys,

I was just searching the internet and I saw this salvaged car has the newer angled BMW Kidney Grills, does anyone know where I could get them?

Those are standard 6 series grills. You can easily pick one off the sales forum here for under $100

No they dont sell them that way. Those were either bought as a black set and swapped the centers, or the trim was removed, painted, and reapplied

That is not correct. These are the stock "black" grilles that can be ordered new with the car as an option. These are not aftermarket or modified in any way. I have these on one of my 6's. They look sharp on darker cars. Lighter cars, like white, look better with all black grills.

The black trim with the chrome inserts? I have never seen that - sorry for the confusion on my end then

I can’t speak to that set you linked, but another forum member recommended this set to me (link below) and I purchased it as well. Fast shipping and the fit is great. Fair warning though, replacing them is a big pain if you do it without removing the bumper.

Thanks for the link and heads up. Im most likely going to go to the dealership to get it installed because they said its 0.5 hours of labor

I am actually trying to get the single strip ones because it has that cool angle, sharp look versus the bland round look the M version has

I'm slightly confused...if you have an M6, is there a reason you want to install the pre facelift (pre LCI) kidney grill from the regular f06/f12/f13 (grand coupe`/vert/coupe)?

The color of the kidney slats and surround can vary based on what an owner wants to do with them in regards to colorization...but the original design of the kidney grill's differences are the number or type of slats. The early versions have 10 slats, the LCI has 9 slats, and the M models have 6 double slats.

The standard pre-LCI kidney grills for the non-M 6 series have 10 slats in each grill.

The LCI kidney grills for the non-m 6 series have 9 slats.

The M6 kidney grills have 6 double slats:

Haha maybe with all those posers putting M6 badges and grills on standard 6 series cars, he's trying to balance out the universe and restore order by putting grills from a 640 onto his M6?

To me, the single slat look more aggressive than the double. I have both.

yep...this will definitely be a step in tipping the scale in the other direction.

Just to clarify...I intentionally didn't go into the various color combination & mainly focused on the basic 3 different "slat" designs...but you are absolutely correct that the M6 grills can come in all black (or all chrome or a varied combination):
  • all black
  • all chrome
  • combination of black & chrome (aka chrome surround/black slats or black surround/chrome slats)
  • addition of the 3 ///M colors painted or adhered to some of the slats.

    ///M - 6 Bar

sometimes you just need to accept that things happen for a reason and this is just a order of the universe.

We all appreciate your assistance with this request, you are doing God's work.
