To all these people in California putting a few gallons of e85 in their M6 and feeling a difference, is this on the same map or are you switching to a 93 octane map? Will it be bad to put a couple gallons of e85 on a stock tune no mods?

Not sure this you (or your car) would benefit from it, but at least my owners manual says that you can fill up with fuel with less than 10% ethanol. I believe E85 is 15%, but if it’s only a small portion of the whole tank should be ok...

No problems for me. I ran 20% ethanol in my M5 for 2 years without an issue. I am now doing the same in my M6. There is significant performance difference for both cars not running E20. Both cars have Mission stage 1 tune. I have never gone beyond 20%.

I opened this thread 2 years ago , and im still confused 🤔
Yesterday i had my hands on Vp ms109 fuel , i throw 5 gallons in half tank on my m6 f13 stage 1+ hcp , the car behave very weird , it felt heavier and my gps data were slower , with 93 octane my 100-200 km/h was 6.2 seconds (62-124 mph ) , with the Vp ms109 my car now is doing 100-200km/h in 7.4 seconds . Anybody can explain to me whats wrong here ??🤔 |

I personally run boostane on occasion. Going from 93 to 98oct yielded a gain of .30 secs on my 60-130 in similar conditions. Could likely drop another .3/4 secs if running on 100. |

All things equal, higher octane will decrease power. The only benefit to running higher octane levels is if you increase boost or timing to take advantage of the detonation resistance of the octane levels. So if you weren't already having knock issues, this result is expected IMO. There is an entirely different discussion regarding fuel chemistry vs power, beyond just octane measurements.

Gap to .022 and maybe your high pressure fuel pump cant keep up 🤷*♂️ try just 2 gallons and see if the car runs stronger

That is pretty interesting. Do you have any info on how it does this measurement? Can your tuner point us towards the ECU tables that control timing and boost vs measured octane?

I have an e85 station right by my house, and run 4 gallons of e85, the rest 91, every time I fill up. There is most definitely a difference, specially right now that it is 100 degrees in the middle of October here in Los Angeles. I ran the car for one full hot day on just 91, the car felt sluggish. then came back and pumped 4 gallons of e85 the same day as soon as my gas tank had the space; I can confirm it is not just my imagination lol.

This thread has intrigued me enough to head out and see what the ethanol content in the fuels I have access to. I religiously run BP 93 in my car as it's the highest octane available without being cost prohibitive. Does anyone know what the ethanol content in BP's 93 octane is? Is it just E10 or is it less? I have seen some mentions in Google searches of it possibly being lower.
Conversely, does anyone know what the true ethanol content of E85 from Speedway or Holiday is? It's stated that the content can be between 51% and 83% but I'm sure it varies based on the 'brand'. Also the octane content available in the E85 at these stations. Can't seem to find this info anywhere and want to make sure I'm putting in the right ratios to stay under 20% ethanol in the tank

Ljohnson32 I have three gas stations near me here in The Valley in Los Angeles that sell pump e85, and none of them have ever been over 78%. Never lower than 75, I know this because I also have a GT-R setup with E85 content analyzer. Recently I pumped right under 5 gallons on accident into the M6, and I noticed no difference other than the same power bump I usually feel by adding 4 gallons, nothing funny happened ever and I finished the entire tank.
