In terms of timing, when will the F35/6 be revealed relative to the F32? And what about the F85/6? When will it be revealed relative to the F82? Lastly, can you tell us whether or not the F14M will have the same double-bubble style roof as the F12M? If so, will that styling cue trickle down to the F82 and F85/6?

Ah yes, that is true. While we were the only ones to receive the manual versions, we have also been deprived in the past like with the engine in the E36 M3. That's not really an issue now, unless someone in the US is wanting something like the new M550d.

Each M Division boss leaves their signature on each vehicle and with the M6 Coupe and Convertible you can see the genes of the 1M Coupe. The M3 and M4 although started early development under Dr. Segler. The M3 and M4 are now being continued by the new M manager Dr. Friedrich Nitschke so it is his signature that will feature on these cars. Each M leaves a distinctive template and always tries to bring something new whether in a appearance , engineering or material or sometimes a new model for a new segment like the 1M or the forthcoming X4M which is something BMW has never offered before - A high performance activity vehicle in the entry segment and also a key area for growth in the entry performance segment. The M6 for example is a distinctive car for a highly distinctive segment. And also allows the transition for the M Brand to have the Core M models bookended by the M Performance cars. Whereas the M3 and M4 is the entry segment's sports car so the overall look will commence with a fine balance between evolutionary and revolutionary in both appearance, material technology and engineering. It cannot just be a shrunken down M6, it has to have its own identity and in the case of the M4 even more so.

This is RIDONCULOUS!! Here in Australia, you have to fork out at least $200,000 for this car. You guys have it lucky with such a strong bulk purchasing power from the economy. For the same price I'm stuck with a 1 series coupe D:

As for the roofline of the F82 and F85/6, I certainly hope you do something as aggressive as the F12M, if not more so given that those cars are aimed at a younger demographic than the F12M. By the way, what is the chassis designation of the 4-series GC? F35 or F36?

In terms of direct competitors I believe it is as follows:
A3/1 Series A4/3 Series/C Sedan A5/4 Series/C Coupe A5 Sport Back/4 Series GC A6/5 Series/E Class A7/6 Series GC/CLS Class A8/7 Series/S Class 8 Series/CL Class TT/Z4/SLK In terms of the 6 series coupe im not sure where that would fit in To me it makes absolutely no sense to why BMW would offer the 6GC at such a subtantial mark up compared to its competitors. It seems as if BMW has become increasingly overpriced over the last couple of years. If you compare each of their models to its direct competitor BMW always ends up being the most expensive of the bunch. |

No question I would cross shop the E-coupe and 6-series. Don't really care what chassis either car is built on. The E-coupe offers every electronic and comfort gadget you would want. I personally think the E-coupe is sexy as hell. You can get into a twin-turbo V8 for much less than the 6-cylinder 6-series. |

Hmmm, I think the upcoming 4 series will be more suited to compete with the A5 and E Class Coupe due to size, much closer in price,(based on projected prices from outgoing 3 series coupe) price and performance. An equally equipped 6 series is very close to Merc CL in price, not to mention size, awd, limited back seat(both) and there's no AMG E Class Coupe.
M6/CL63 M6 conv./SL63 Also, I didn't cross shop the E Class Coupe against the 6 series. I did however look long and hard at the CL 550 though. |

As a leader these days within the premium segment, BMW can charge premium for their products, more so than the competition imo. Since the cars coming from BMW pretty much sets the bar these days, coming out on top in any test they participate in. The sales figures speak it's own language as well. So put the A7, CLS the GC and Panamera next to each other, the GC and Panamera is going to be the first choice, not so for the CLS and A7 imo. Older and uglier, and let's face it, the GC and Panamera is much more premium. If money is your object, buy a Hyundai or some other garbage. The 6 GC is probably the most sensible car BMW have relased within the last decade imo. Giving the brand more premium and money in. They need to earn more bucks for each car, VAG have a bigger volume, and Benz more premium models, that's about to change, and the 6 GC is a hell of a start imo.

CLS550
My friend Google, helped me find the design language of the 2012 CLS550, I really had no idea what the overall design looked like...

I dont know that I agree with this. I think all of these cars (A7, CLS, 6er GC, Panamera, and yes, even the CL, S class, 7 Series, 6 Series, etc) after all, is this new "4+1" segment anything other than a cross-breed of a big coupe (CL/6er) and a big sedan in much the same way the "crossover SUV" emerged over the past decade? The bottom line is buyers are going to cross-shop all of these cars and decide what makes the most sense for them based on what they want to spend and how much performance, utility and luxury they want.
The CLS is only ~ $4k less, do you really think that is a meaningful sum at this price point? Also, as much as BMW options are, Benz options are even more (and of course Porsche options make all of the other German cars option costs look like chump change) and I would be a comparably equipped car is even closer than a $4k difference. While the A7 undercuts the CLS and 6er GC by a large margin, I would say that is more aggressive pricing by Audi, and I believe it is a bit smaller inside, but I still think it is the same class. So I think what you really have is a spectrum of "4+1" offerings and although they ultimately will have very different buyers, each of them clearly has all of the other "4+1"s squarely in their cross hairs. |
