Just picked up my first 650i Gran Coupe, have a few mod questions

Hey guys!

Finally picked up a 6 series gran coupe, wanted one for a long time. Test drove a 640i gran coupe, loved it but felt i wanted more power from factory. Drove the 650i and immediately loved it.

So its a 2015 650i with about 53k miles. Its in incredible shape. My question is this.

Which tune/software do you guys recommend for me and how/who installs it? What does it cost to have this done?

Also, which basic intake is popular and works well among 650i owners?

I'll be on 91 octane as ill be here in SoCal. I know these engines are beasts and a basic intake with tune should net huge gains so im really looking forward to getting it done asap.

(ps,ill upload some pics but it looks like every other 650 gran coupe lol)

Thank you!

Bootmod3 is the most popular tune for out cars. They have a 91 octane tune so you are good there. I run the 93 oct tune and mix in 25% E85 when i fill up to help IATs down and get to 93 oct from 91. You probably wont find a shop that will do this for you, because in CA it is not street legal, but you can buy an OBD2 wifi adapter (THOR is what i went with) and flash it yourself with your phone.

The bootmod 3 flash is about $900 and the wifi adapter is another 60 bucks.

Not many people run aftermarket intakes on the 650, especially if you are only going stage 1. The factory intake is pretty high flow, and there just isnt much to gain there.

Also just sn FYI, when you get the tune you will need tho swap the plugs wth at least 1 step colder plugs gapped down to 0.020, and it is advisable to replace the coils at the same time. NGK 97506 are the most popular plugs for this. Also look at Eldor coils or Bavarian Autosport coils in lieu of the factory Bosch.

I am pretty sure SSR uses bootmod3 for thier tune. Even if they do custom flashes using the software, i wouldn't spend the extra money for stage 1. If you want to get every HP you can, then catless downpipes, meth injection and a custom tune make sense, but for stage 1 i would stick to a tune that is tested and reliable. Just my $0.02.

Yah, I dont want to do more than a proper tune on this car. Maybe an intake to hear the turbo spool a bit more but thats about it. As far as performance goes at least. Maybe some slightly lower than stock lowering springs and some wheels.

I'll look into SSR in orange. Im in Burbank so thats about an hour or so drive.

I do not think he would want to fuck it every year swapping OEM downpipe back for inspection and then putting catless back))).

Actually Ca allows 8 years after first purchase for smog exemption, so no test until 2024 and then every other year after that, but yeah, that is why i am not doing a catless down pipe.
