tire pressure reading
I didnt see anything in the owners manual about this, but are the tire pressures not displayed somewhere just an indicator that they are low? I got an indicator that one is low and it does tell me which one it is, just not the actual pressure.
thx |

Or the previous owner didn’t install TPM sensors that deliver temp & pressure data and possibly converted the system back to the FTM (flat tire monitor) system. What does it say at the bottom of the screen when you pull up the tire pressure info? Does it say TPM or FTM?

Since you do have an amber indication and when you check all the tires…they are low…inflate the tires to the correct PSI…then go into iDrive and do a reset (you can see where it is done in the pics below along the left side of the iDrive screen). Anytime you change a wheel/tire or add air to any tire…you should do a reset. If you don’t then the baseline for a low PSI warning gets screwed up…which may be why you only got one indicator when you checked & found multiple tires where low. Also…double check the PSI label on your door (or check your owners manual)…41 PSI for the front seems high. There’s multiple info for different speeds & number of passengers as well as if you have a square set-up or a staggered set-up. And pressure should be checked when the tires are cold.

Here’s two pages from the owners manual that helps explain the TPM system and the warnings and when to reset etc. Again, if you don’t see PSI & temp info…it only means that it hasn’t been coded on…you will just receive check control warnings and the display will show “green” when PSI is correct…or “amber” when PSI is low.
Some markets (like Canada which is mentioned in the owners manual) come with the PSI & temp coded on from the factory.

Figured it out with Beamercode. PSI and temp were not active. Made it active and it now displays both. Odd thing not to default to active, but nonetheless, issue resolved.

Thanks for the update....glad you got it all squared away.
Yeah, for some reason PSI & Temp were not the default for our BMWs when they came to market. The only federal requirement was for there to be the TPMS system (actual sensors in the wheels to determine PSI). In some other countries...they don't even require the TPMS system...they still use the FTM (flat tire monitor) system that uses the ABS/wheel sensors to calculate wheel rotation to determine if a tire has lost air. The one image I posted above shows the FTM screen...the type of system (FTM or TPM) is written along the bottom of the screen.

One last thing, someone mentioned that the 41 and 44 PSI pressure inside my doorwell seems high which i do agree with and i guess the tire store i just bought the new tires from do as well since they only put 35psi in all tires. Anyone know why that would be so high and if 35 is ok? Seems to drive fine with 35 across the board. thx

Check your owners manual...there's is a chart listed for the various recommended tire inflations...based on tire sizes, speed & number of passengers & cargo.
