How can I tell if my N63TU is tuned?

Hello,

I sold my 2012 650i about a year ago in the hope that I can get a 650i with an N63TU but the prices went through the roof. I ended up buying a 2014 550i with an N63TU. In sport+ mode, 550i feels faster than 650i. I know it has an additional horse power but either I don't remember how fast 650i was or 50HP makes more difference than I imagined or maybe this car is tuned. In any case, I am wondering how I can find out if my 550 has a stage 1 tune (Weistec or something else) without taking it to dyno? I do have ISTA/P as well as ISTA/D.

Thanks

Not only do you have more horsepower…the N63TU also has more torque…and torque is generally what is described as “what you feel”.

2012 650i (coupe?)
6 Series N63 V8 Engine:
  • Horsepower @ RPM: 400 @ 5500
  • (ft.lb) Torque @ RPM: 450 @ 1750
2014 550i sedan
5 series N63TU V8 Engine:
  • Horsepower @ RPM: 445 @ 5,500
  • (ft.lb) Torque @ RPM: 480 @ 1,750
Do you have the Sport Display feature in iDrive? I believe that when the engine is flashed/tuned…they can also update the sport display to reflect the HP & torque changes.

Thank you Qsilver7!
You not only answered my question but also showed me a cool feature of the car I did not know about. My display is identical to "before" and so I do not have a tune.
I just need to find out what tune Duff Ace got.
Thanks again for the quick reply!

If you click the link in my post above…it takes you directly to post #1 in his thread. If you look at the upper right (once you’ve clicked that link)…you will see another link that says THREAD: New sport display see the difference”. If you click that link, the whole thread will open and you can read down that discussion where he mentions what tune he got.
