How are M6 seats ?

Hello,
I currently have a 640i GC which have a big problem for me : the seats.
Worst part of the car despite it is equiped with confort seats option.
So I considered changing for F10 but I love the look of F06.

I finally noticed that the M6 GC front seat design are different, do you know if they are more comfortable than the standard F06 ?
Thanks

They are perfect, a combination of support and comfort! No issues sitting as long as there's fuel in the tank (800 km - 500 or so miles)…

Thanks for your reply I use my F06 mostly for long trips.
Have you driven a 640 or 650 before to compare ?

800km with a full tank is nice

No I haven't, but now thinking about it, Australian market M6s may actually have what are called comfort seats (separate head rest) as standard - are they the ones you refer to as comfort seats? If so, I may just be happy with what you have a problem with…?

Yes it is, comfort seats are this ones with all buttons :

There are uncomfortable on long trips compared to comfort seats on F10.

M6 seat are different :

You can see the bottom of the seat is different, so i was wondering if they are more comfortable than the 640 or 650.

What is specifically uncomfortable? The 22-way comfort seats can still have other features (ventilation & active comfort)…so just saying your seats are uncomfortable without any other details is a vague description of your issue. I’m only asking because if you get M6 seats with the same features…they may be uncomfortable for you, too.

For example, one of the biggest complaints about the comfort seats with ventilation is that they are harder. This is due to the stiffer padding required to compensate for the 8-9 fans built into the seat. The non ventilated seats use a softer padding since there’s no mechanical items right below the surface that could really be uncomfortable if you could feel them.

So…if the issue is the padding in your seats that make them uncomfortable for you..you may want to simply swap out for non ventilated seats. Ventilated M6 seats will be just as uncomfortable.

I don't have ventilated seats and yes they are hard, nappa leather don't help..
If I sit on my 640i and just after in my 550i E61 (with also comfort seats dakota leatther) the difference is huge, much more comfortable like a sofa with the same maintaining.

I use this car for long trips so it is very important for me.

What year is your GC if it does not have ventilation? It is something very basic that I did not see only at old, cheap 6er F series. M seats would be the same difference for you as they have same shape, size and support.

800 km ~ 500 mi with a full tank at M6 ???? Ahaha. Probably at laboratory or at a dyno stand. I do 250 mi max with a full tank in my 650, that is in a city, with limited traffic jam and 14,88 mpg. With highway run it might be 350, probably 400 if you stay all the time at 65 mph and cruise control, but no chance for 500)))

Well my family did not find M6 seats comfortable for a 300 mile motorway travel (the front passenger and back seat). The car has individual interior, comfort seat but no ventilation. The weird thing was that I did not find the seat uncomfortable. As I mentioned in my earlier post, for the same journey, they found G30 520D much more comfortable.

Haha, either my lead foot is not as heavy as yours, or I'm doing something exceptional, but I can repeat the 800 km anytime - Melbourne to Sydney is just under 800 km and never need to fill up if keeping within a couple of km/h speed limit which is 90% 110 km/k (just under 70 mph) and the rest 100 km/h…

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, it looks liked the f06/f12/f13 comfort seats are not going to be comfortable for you. It’s the total design of the seat and built in seat belt that doesn’t work for you comfortability. The only difference with the M6 seats is the design of the leather seat covers…the underlying make up of the seats are the same.

You may be happier if with the comfort seats in one of the generational “cousins” of the F chassis six series like the f10 5 series, f01 7 series, or f15 X5.

The 2 pics below show the M6’s regular sport seats and the comfort seat option. You can see that the basic seat design is the same…it’s basically just the leather seat cover’s design that distinguishes the M6 from the regular f06/f12/f13 seat designs. There’s also a basic seat (usually comes in Dakota leather) which has a slightly different material design…but the basic seat architecture will still be the same…thus not offer any more comfort level:

F06/F2/F13 M6 sport seats & comfort seats:

Just an FYI for those that live in BMW markets where the “sport seats” weren’t offered on the f06/f12/f13…you can see pics of them below (the mocha sport seats). The front headrest and upper seat back look like one-piece. In fact, the front sport seats headrests actually “match” the headrests of the rear folding seats found in the f06 gran coupe`.

This is also one of the design oddities I find in the f06…where if you have the front comfort seats (w/rectangular head rests)…the rear seats don’t actually “match” like they do if you have the f12/f13 with front comfort seats (see pic below w/white front comfort seats (w/rectangular headrest) and the rear seats also have matching rectangular headrests).

Here in France ventilated seats are not a standard equipment.

Wow thanks

Bad news for me, maybe a swap of F10 seats is possible

San Marino blue goes further, obviously

Filled up in Dundee, Scotland, drove south and filled up again in Ipswich, Suffolk, 480 miles later without a low fuel warning. Just drove normally on a mixture of roads, towns, villages and some motorway. Yep, mine's SMB too.

I find the seats are comfortable enough for a long journey. Maybe they're not armchair comfortable but it's not a wafty limo. My only criticism is the limited verticle adjustment. I doubt I'll grow anymore and I'd prefer the seat a few cms higher.

The difference in fuel consumption between 70mph and 80 mph average is usually significant. You can get 400+ miles if you keep around 70mph.
