Engine Vibration?
Hi all!
I have a 2015 640i GC xDrive with 67k and Stg1 MHD tune + Stg2 XHP on it. I bought this car 4 months ago and I noticed the cabin vibrates at idle for the most part. I figure it’s no big deal and needs some new mounts and a tune up. I first changed the spark plugs. Then the motor mounts. The vibration is better but still veryyyy noticeable for the most part. Here’s when the vibration DOESNT occur at idle:
Here’s my questions and theory if someone can help: 1. I was under the impression this car would feel more like a Lexus where there’s 0 cabin vibration. Is this not the case? Is idle vibration normal on this car like it is on a Honda?? 2. I used Corteco motor mounts like a moron. I read afterward that these may not be as oem as stated on FCP due to manufacturing changes? Could it be this? 3. I put in NGK spark plugs (also like a moron) which I didn’t realize are 1 step colder for the n55 engine. I have only a stg 1 tune which is nothing really so could the colder plugs be causing issues? 4. I’m not sure if this is odd behavior as well but when I turn off the car. It doesn’t feel like an instant silent shut off. It feels a lot like my Acura where it kind of spudders like it’s choking. Turning it off also gives a very noticeable vibration shaking as it’s choking off Last edited by OnlyDaanish; 01-16-2025 at 08:13 AM.. Reason: Typo |

I just had the same thing happen. Couldn't figure it out. Took it to local indy and they said engine mounts collapsed. Replaced and vibration gone.

On mine w/N63, the drivetrain vibrations were totally isolated, and I've only notice the slightest change over 6 or so years/many miles. Sounds like a possible misfire but that should throw a code. I don't have experience with N55 though.
