2016 BMW M6 GC Center Console arm rest

Hello everyone,

I just got a 2016 M6 GC. This has been my dream car for quite a while and was finally able to get one. As you can see in the photo, the center console arm rest is worn out and it's really bugging me. Would really appreciate any suggestions regarding this.

Thank you!!

The only fix is probably replacement or having it recovered.

My concern over the years is….what causes this degradation? It can also be found on the top section of the driver’s door. Both locations are places where the driver rests their arm…which makes me assume that the material is being affected by something the driver has applied to their arm….like some type of lotion (hand/body/sun screen/etc).

After seeing these areas deform on some vehicles…anytime I’m not wearing something with long sleeves…I keep a hand towel folded up in the door’s storage been, then place the towel on the center armrest when I have bare skin…especially if its hot and I’m sweaty. I also clean these leather surface frequently…anytime I wash the vehicle…I take a dampened microfiber towel (also folded and stored in the door bin) and wipe down all the leather…especially the center armrest, steering wheel, and top of driver’s door…as well as the entire dash (since I have the leather dash option in both my BMWs).

You have to keep leather clean. Body oils+dirt+heat+UV will break it down as shown. Yes damp microfiber wiping down and sometimes but not too frequent leather cleaner, even less frequent conditioner will help prevent this, May need a soft brush as well. Find details at Meguiar’s online forum. Meguiarsonline.com

That is not leather. You have the standard, pebble grain vinyl center console and dash. If you look at pics online of cars for sale you can see that your problem is very common with that center console material. I personally would just buy a new one. I've seen a few that were recovered and the material never matches perfectly and the stitch lines never look right.

I thinks it's more of a sweat use than a pressure issue - but some of both. But that is some lousy vinyl BMW uses.

I stand by what I said earlier. Leather or vinyl, keep it clean and protect from UV.
