Leather Dye?

Has anyone dyed their leather? I have a couple small flawed areas in my door panel leather and would like to repair it.

Interested to follow your progress and results. I really like the colourlock solution, will have to search more people's results. Also came across this post by a fellow member who used a Swissvax kit with some decent looking results.

I needed the same when i bought my F13 last year. (before pic)
I ordered a kit from leatherworldtech and it worked great. I had vermillion red so it was harder to match.
But black should be easier.
The kit came with sponges and filler putty.

I reached out to Colourlock and they informed me to buy their kit which includes a sand block. I’m nervous to sand the blemished areas. Has anyone sanded leather prior to dying it?

Yes.
I did a complete seat restoration on a 32 yo Porsche.
I didn’t use a block. I just used a 1200 grit emory cloth/paper. Is important to do, but gingerly. Once you start you’ll get the feel. Then you gently wipe off with a clean non filamentous cloth impregnated with a solvent. No hairs/fibers to be left. Let it dry. Apply a hair drier to warm up the leather before pigmenting it.

Add: important to do all steps on a non obvious area to make sure you’ll be good. Bottom of seat face behind the heels of your foot would be good.

I've dyed leather several times. For something that small I would not do hardly any prep. That is way different than doing a seat restoration on an old car. If you start sanding or using a solvent you will just end up with a bigger area to fix. You can always redo it with more aggressive methods, but don't start there. 99.9999% of your issue is color match, and second is sheen match. As you can see from your own photo comparing the speaker cover and door pull, that "black" is not even close to true black. Once you have a true color match, clean that area well with leather cleaner and then just use water and a dry rag. Let it dry a while. Then take your dye on a cotton rag stretched over your fingertip and and pit just a tiny amount on it and just dab it there like you would alcohol on a cut if you hate pain. Try to only dye the worn area.

If you want a little more precision, I use these touch up paint applicators to apply dye. I would never used these for touch up paint.

Maybe just adding color to the area instead of sanding it might be best. As long as it blends, I would be happy with the results.

I use Johnston & Murphy Shoe Cream on my black leather seats where they wear on the bolsters. A great match!

I depends on what you are trying to do. What do you mean by "refresh"? You are almost always better off limiting dye to damaged areas if possible. Maybe post a pic or two? I just recently got a product from England and I remain rather stunned by how well it worked and how closely it matches. Here's the link:
