F06 M6 Exhaust Vs F06 650i Exhaust

I've been searching the web and looking at youtube videos for the past 3months. I just can't seem to wrap my head around the difference between the exhaust in the 650i and the M6.

The engine in the 650i and the M6 is identical (correct me if I'm wrong). Both 4.4L V8 yet the exhaust notes differ, why is that?

Engines are far from identical apart from capacity really. No throttle butterfly on the M6, totally different manifold and turbo setup, twin water Cooled ecu's vs 1 on 650, totally different inlet and intercooler setup etc etc.

Cross Bank Exhaust Manifold on S63. Creates equal pulses side to side to counteract the firing order on each bank.

Yeap! The stock M6 exhaust is totally emasculating

I think this is why BMW FINALLY went to Akra and cut a deal for an akra sourced BMW M Perf bin exhaust option to fix their oversight or short sightedness

This was one of the reasons I kept my 2007 M6 for so long as the new M6 sound sucked ... My two S63 Amg's has batter sound, which says a lot for the AMG teams focus ... And a let down for the M division

It should be noted I did add the Eisenmann sport cat back to my 2007 in about 2010 just for the look as the sound was already amazing and only a little better with the eisenmann

The X5M exhaust they got right ... Same engine

Here is hoping the next gen M6 has the proper exhaust note ... Or else my dealer will be storing yet another stock exhaust!!! Or I may not be back to buy a next Gen M6 for a while or jump ship to 911 or Benz for a rag top option. (after 170k canadian for a full load car without comp package or carbon ceramic breaks ... another 10k for a proper exhaust set up to help with the car's attitude and presence ?)

Love the player ... just not sure about what the team is playing

X5M is slightly different as the tu engine variant in the M6/5 used inlet valve lift control for throttling rather than a traditional butterfly arrangement which the X5M uses... Might have changed for 2016 though as emissions are better on the tu variant.

F85/86 use a new variant with Valvetronic as on the M5/M6. Few additional changes as well.

G11/12 750i with the latest N63 uses twin-scroll turbos as well so it too has the cross bank manifold.

One common thing between them is the electric exhaust flaps. Just my opinion but I think they probably programmed a little offset pulsing back in for acoustic masculinity

I wouldn't change the exhaust if that was the case. I want something better looking and better sounding. That's what I thought prior to knowing that the M6 exhaust is weak. I'm interested in aftermarket now.

Turner muffler delete and new tips may just do the trick ... +/- resonators and down pipes ... See what is on line for options ... Looking at it now ... I love the Akra for sound and look but the turner muffler delete and new tips may have been a more cost effective approach for a similar sound ... I already had airs ordered by the time I discovered turner ... See what the web has to offer
