car running rough and bumpy
I have been driving my 650i for about two years now, and for the most part it drove extremely smooth, took bumps well, and was a great drive. Now recently i have felt that the driving is extremely bumpy and rough even when im in comfort+, and i'm wondering why. Road noise also seems to be a lot louder
I have put my winter tires one however when i just put them on it wasn't bad. I drove it for a while then i started noticing it to get pretty bad. I doubt it would throw an error for anything like this so i'm wondering where to start if there was an issue or if i'm just going nuts and my winters are just going to feel rougher than my summers. |

How many miles? Anywhere from 40k miles and up you can start to need some new suspension parts on these heavy cars. A major culprit is the big oil-filled bushings on your front thrust arms. You could also have failing struts. But none of that should really cause an increase in road noise. Who put on your winter tires? An obvious thing is to to make sure all the wheel lug bolts are not coming loose. And yes, true winter tires will be nosier than true summer tires.

And I'll add that one of the biggest contributors to road noise is what I will call "invisible" road wear. If you drive your car on a smooth asphalt side street it will be very quiet. If you drive it on a busy street that is also asphalt and looks equally smooth, the noise can be deafening by comparison. What happens is that the softer asphalt wears away at the surface, leaving the stone aggregate more pronounced. So if by chance you noticed the sudden increase on a day when you may have altered your route, that may account for some of it.
