What reset procedure uses the volume button?

A number of times since I have been on this forum I have read about a reset procedure that involves holding down the volume button and some other button for a period of time. I'm pretty sure someone mentioned it within the last week. Of course now I can't find it. My first question is what system does that procedure reset? Is it the climate system or the iDrive system or something else?

If it is not the climate system, is there a procedure to reset the climate system? The blender dial up top appears to work correctly when the air is on, but seems to do nothing on a cool day when the air is off. I just get kinda annoyingly warmish air from the top vents no matter how I set the dial.

It is a reset procedure for the CIC (aka the HU-HIGH or HU-NBT or iDrive). But to be honest…I’ve never been able to get it to work on any of my 3 F-chassis BMWs with the CIC nor NBT/ID4 versions:
  • 2013 f06 w/CIC
  • 2014 f15 w/NBT/ID4
  • 2015 f06 w/NBT/ID4

So now here comes my really dumb question : Why would one need to reset the CIC?

It’s a computer…and just like your Dell, HP, Acer, Mac, etc…sometimes you can get the little wheel of death (keeps spinning and can’t access anything)…but if you do a reboot/restart…things start working correctly again.

Then inverse is..if nothing is wrong with your CIC and you have no issues etc…there’s no reason to reboot the CIC.
