Differences by MY
Tried searching so please don’t chastise me...just point me in the right direction.
I’m interested in an M6 Gran Coupe and am trying to find what differences there are between each MY. Thanks in advance! Ryan |

This is why I just bought a 2014 and saved a ton of money. Very few changes in the next 5 years but significantly cheaper. You'd have to decide how much a bit of warranty and idrive is worth to you. And for me, it wasn't worth $15-$30k more.

That is correct. The 2016 model year is the start of the facelift with the new headlights where the turn signal was moved from below the headlights to the "eyebrow" location above the headlights. The 2015/2016 confusion is probably due to some markets (country specific) having particular standards for "model year" designation.
For instance, the LCI (headlight facelift) does occur in 2015...but in the US market...it occurred for the roll out of the designated 2016 model year. The model year and build date do not necessarily have to be the same. Historically, September used to be the traditional beginning of the new model year...thus you could have 2016 models produced from Sept-Dec 2015. BTW, September doesn't "have" to be the roll out month...it could be any month/year but in the US market...the 10th digit of the VIN has to designate what the model year is. One example of a real early roll out was the 1997 e39. Because of the US federal OBD II mandate...there was no 1996 e39 model year...BMW had to push back the roll out of the e39 so that they could make the mandate. So the e39 debuted (not in Sept/1995)...but rolled out in June 1996...and they were designated as 1997 model year cars. The f06 EOP (end of production) also caused an odd 2019 model year. The 2018 model year ended in March 2018...then from April 2018 through October 2018...those last f06 models were designated as 2019 model years.

Having said that, if you have a choice and you don't go for the Comp you might regret your decision just because there is a Comp model out there and the cost difference used is relatively small. |
