F13 M6 (2016) Automatic Braking?

I'm interested to know if my car has Automatic (Emergency) Braking System.. and don't want to find out the hard way.

I've read conflicting reports if this was available on the 2016 model.

It does have the Collision Warning indicator & Lane Departure warning.

Does anyone know for sure and/or have you experienced this in action? If so equipped, will it only reduce speed, or can it bring the vehicle to a full stop?

Many Thx.

Garage List
My 2015 is optioned with S5AS Driving Assistant which a suite of safety features to include the automatic emergency braking. The feature works at speeds over 35MPH if I remember correctly. I have had it engage one time while at highway speeds. I kicked in just as I went for the brake when someone darted in front of me. It was a bit unsettling but glad it was there to lend a hand err foot.

You can lookup your vin one mdecoder.com to see what your car was optioned with.

That's great news thanks. Mine also checks out with the "S5AS Driving Assistant " option on mdecoder.

Even on "early warning" collisions alert setting, I find it the alert comes on quite lately, especially for a car with this much horsepower! Yet to need automatic braking. But I haven't even tried Launch Control yet.

Anyone else have auto-brake IRL stories?

Your car also has an owners manual embedded in iDrive...which is very specific to how your car is optioned. I highly recommend checking it out to see what info it can give you on how your car is optioned and how the intelligent safety features work.

The iDrive owners manual has multiple ways of searching and If you open the idrive manual and do a keyword search…try INTELLIGENT SAFETY or DRIVING ASSISTANCE to see if you can get more information as to how these systems work on your car. It should give you info as to when auto braking will kick in…do know that in most cases YOU MUST STILL initiative braking. We haven’t reached the JETSON’s era where you can just sit there and the car will do everything for you. You will get some type of warning…preliminary or acute to warn you of imminent or immediate danger. Auto braking kicks in at certain MPH depending on which options you have….and again, if you go into the iDrive owners manual…it will give this info so that you’ll be aware of how it works.

You may even have embedded videos for a visual explanation, as well. The iDrive manual in most cases will SKIP over options not installed in the car (which is different than than the physical paperback version which covers everything regardless if it is installed or not).

Here’s some screen shots from my 2015 f06 (I don’t have the S5AS option) which only has the city mitigation braking that occurs up to 35 MPH…but did discover from looking…that nI have ACTIVE PROTECTION which also has a video on how it works before & after n accident…as well as “take-a-break” warnings on long trips.

…more from the iDrive owners manual that shows how much info it has & the different ways of searching…like the “animated explanations”…aka “videos”. My f06 has 13 embedded videos
