Cost of an M6 motor Replacement

https://www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledi...m_source=share

Guy/Girl at BMW dealership: I just turned on my car one day and it made all these weird noises and I haven't touched anything. It's all stock.

Guy/Girl on forums: Guys, can you tell me what happened? I'm running Stage 10 tune at 500 PSI with full bolt ons and my car doesn't turn on. Can someone tell me what all these error codes are:

All kidding aside, I'm curious what happened.

Seems more than just the cost of the motor.

Man I remember my Subaru years as you could buy complete EJ257 engines for $5k and short blocks for $2500. Mind you those engines failed so much that engines and short blocks were widely available out of necessity.

OP from Reddit states:

"This was a 2019 BMW M6 with perfect service history. There were zero software/hardware modifications and no previous signs of any tampering. One day the owner turned the vehicle on and it started knocking, a few seconds later it locked up. He towed it in to us, we instantly inspected the oil and found huge chunks of metal shavings. BMW factory warranty is probably one of the best warranty out there, they covered the replacement of an the entire engine assembly. The customer was not charged a single penny."

It may be possible that this was due to manufacture defects; at least something that would have appeared during the warranty period

According to my (european) dealerportal, an M6 engine (short engine) (part# 11002420707) costs € 21314,-- ex taxes.

But the photo shows "parts amount" whatever that might include

1/3 to 1/2 of vehicle cost for OEM engine replacement is what I’ve seen as roughly correct for a German car…

Just an SA helping flood the forums for when BMWNA does a little research before they approve the warranty claim... Should have put the VIN there on that one.

Hope the guy had his break-in service done...

I had the same reaction on reading the OP first message. If he has a stage 10 tune, and BMW knows, it will deny any warranty claim.
