Apple Car Play Install

Hello everyone,

I am in the midst of installing Apple CarPlay, and I am having some trouble with placing all the wiring bundles back into the hole in the center console hole.

Can anyone who has done this provide some advice/tips? I heard folks were placing their CarPlay units behind the glovebox, but I can't seem to get the wiring on that side, and I don't want to keep tugging on wires.

I have tried to look at videos on YouTube, but they all seem to skip the part of putting everything back together correctly.

Please, any experience and/or assistance is greatly appreciated.

Sigh. Did this late last year. I had scratches and cuts all over my hands. From contorting I wrenched my back, pinched a nerve and couldn't walk for a week.

It took forever to bundle that all back up with the wires in behind the OEM radio/dash. I was able to get them all in there. Didn't need to put anything in glove box.

Keep on looking for places to put the wires, use different combinations until it works.

I recall I had to put a lot of pressure on the faceplates to get them to go in.

Which one did you buy? Call the company for advice?

(Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.)

I actually finally got it. It took me hours just to get with CarPlay box to sit well behind the dash. Ended up unbolting the glovebox a bit to get more leverage. And same happened to me; pinched nerve and cuts all over my hands. Luckily it is all wired up correctly!

Now just waiting for my new backing plate for the LCI iDrive Screen, and I'll be all set to go.

No more tearing interior parts for a while for me lol.

Would like to know what package you who did get it to work with an F12 used. I recognize the back pain and scratched hands. I did wrestle with the Bavarian Automotive MMI for over a week but I never got it to work properly. It worked when I installed but after a few hours it did not work. Same thing over and over again: it worked if I unplugged the power from the interface box but after a few hours: dead again.

Tonight I bit the lemon and tore the trim and ripped the complete installation from the car so I can use the car again to drive…

Yes, it all works. I just need to figure out the audio/EQ settings for music because for now, the music is inferior in quality to my B&O.

I purchased mine through https://hifimaxnavi.com/products/app...31286588735582.

I've heard good things from a few other 6 owners who purchased these a few years ago.

This made me dispel the idea of installing carplay by myself

I took a different approach and installed the brains of the MMI in the vacant space for the DVD changer in the glovebox. That frees up a bit of room for the cables to tuck into the lower part behind the dash.

I also put mine here. Does make it easy to access as well should you need to for whatever reason, such as connecting additional cameras maybe.

Hi all, I think we are all referring to the same place. I placed the MMI box behind the dash in the empty space next to the glove box. I don't understand why folks think its a different placement location.

Does not sound like you are describing the same place. You seem to be describing a space next to the glove box, but not visible when you open the glove box door. The others seem to be describing the little shelf area inside the glove box.

I installed mine in the console, down low, below the radio. Tight fit, but works. I may regret that location someday.

Thank you for this clarification! It was me who was confused lol. Yes, I placed it in the space behind the dash, but kudos to those who tucked it in that vacant spot .

I bought my CIC kit from hifinav and just installed it, great customer service and answered all my questions within 30 mins via email. Very satisfied, I installed my box on top of the glove box (velcro). Had no issues putting headunit back in with this setup.

What about sound? I am thinking about this device but just do not want to lose all benefits from B&O.

Hugo, your information is always very helpful. In my case with my 2016 GC with B&O, the CarPlay module audio is not the same quality.... It is still quite good though. The reason I believe this, is because the AUX input the module uses to connect to the car's system in my car is analogue. I'm fairly certain that is the same for both the CIC and NBT.

Best!

Interesting that you should say that since AUX has always been held as a superior sound source over bluetooth, and the MMI boxes in general allow for lossless audio to be passed over USB (according to the technical literature anyway). Suppose it does come down to the quality of the DAC being used in the MMI box. Where the box does fall short a bit is when two people use the car. It's not great at switching connections. I circumvented all of this by keeping my phone connected to the iDrive via bluetooth for calls and audio, and using the CarPlay interface only as the input method

The NBT USB in MY 2016 650 GC in my experience is FAR superior to the analog input the CARPLAY module is restricted by.
