Best aftermarket extended warranty?

Anyone have experience with aftermarket warranties for M6 GC's?

Looking at a few rides that are about to go out of warranty. One even has Dinan, which I know BMW wont warranty out of factory.

Had good luck with Fidelity on my 911 but curious to hear thoughts.

I'm looking for one as well.
Route 66 is what my bank offers. They quoted First street basic warranty for about $1300.

I would stay away from Route 66, because they do not cover many of the parts for high performance vehicles with turbos. That’s why their prices are so cheap. A few years ago I purchased a new Nissan GTR, using my credit union. I got the loan from my credit union and went with the check to the dealership and purchased the GTR. I passed up on the extended warranty that the dealership offered because my credit union quoted me a super discounted warranty that was too good to be true. The dealership’s warranty was $5800 and the Route 66 warranty from my credit union was $1800. I’m sure you all can do the math for that with the lowest cost. So, I jumped on it. After a year and a half of running to car in stock condition, I added several mods to my GTR and took it to the track multiple times in the months to follow. Anyway, one of my turbo went bad as a result of the mods and track running.

So, I removed the mods and restored the GTR to its stock condition and took it to the dealership for warranty service. I had put more than 30k miles on the car by then. So, the manufacturer’s warranty had ended. Therefore, I had to go for the extended warranty with Route 66. They immediately denied my claim. Referring to their disclaimers that certain turbocharged and supercharged vehicle parts weren’t covered and blah blah blah!! To my surprise, my GTR’s turbo wasn’t covered. So, I immediately canceled the warranty with Route 66. The Nissan dealership worked with me to get the turbo replaced due to the fact that the car was 2 years old. The had a specialist from Nissan fly in to examine the car and he decided to replace the turbo as a courtesy to me for buying a $120k car brand new and all.

I spoke to the Nissan specialist myself and he informed me that it’s always better to get the dealership’s warranty service because they are completely honored by the vehicle’s manufacturer. And they are more familiar with the mechanics of these high performance vehicles to know how much it costs to replace their parts. Long story short, I don’t always get extended warranties because they are usually a waste of money. However, for BMWs, GTRs, and any other high performance vehicle sometimes n extended warranty may come in handy. So, I’ll buy the extended warranty separately from the dealership. Most dealerships offer “0” percent financing for their extended warranties and you can negotiate a discount with the finance person.

Thanks a bunch!
I called BMW dealership in NWA and they said they don't have any extended warranty available for a 2104 with 35k miles. Bummer.

You may try Fidelity Warranty as an option for out of warranty high line cars. Had good luck with them on my '07 911 Turbo...paid about $4K for a 3yr/30K extension.

You’re correct. BMW isn’t good at taking care of their vehicles after the manufacturer’s warranty ends. That’s primarily due to the exorbitant cost associated with the repairs. So, they will either offer you their Certified Pre-Owned warranty (CPO). Which is very expensive, or they’ll have their individual dealerships offer whatever aftermarket warranties they do choose. The CPO is the best way to go, but it’s at BMW’s own discretion.

I don’t know if what you’re trying to accomplish by getting an extended warranty will suffice. However, here is the number for BMW warranty service administers (Endurance), 800-831-7771. Maybe they will be able to help you out in some way. Good luck.

Obviously things are a bit different here in the UK. I had taken the BMW Extended Warranty on my previous car, a 645Ci, and I also now have it on my 2014 M6 vert. Whilst fairly expensive compared to other independent warranties offered here in the UK, it covers most things, and gives me piece of mind !!

So I've been thinking about this a lot. I may live to regret this, but I think longterm you would save money by never buying extending warranties and playing the odds. After all, the extended warranties are meant to make money...

I agree with you for the most part. Sometimes it is necessary to get a warranty. For example, If you buy a Mercedes, Audi, Acura, Infinity, etc. :-) But seriously, if you’re buying a used vehicle for a whole lot of money. And you believe that it may have some mechanical issues in the near future, then it is good to get the extended warranty. If you’re planning on keeping your vehicle for a long time and you aren’t planning on adding more than 15k-20k miles a year, it may be worth the additional warranty.

I have owned many brand new vehicles over the years and have never once needed the warranty services while it existed. But, once the warranty expired BANG!!! I needed it. Go figure. :-)

Does anyone have a reco for aftermarket companies to look at for an out of warranty 14? Miles are still low at 27k and it seems fidelity is a good option? Any others?

My main concern of course if the engine horror stories im reading about.

Thx!

Any updates from those who have purchased a warranty.

1. Does the car need an existing warranty to add coverage?
2. Do you get a proration back if you sell before warranty is up?
3. Who did you buy from, which brand?

I'm looking at used GC's. If #2 is true, then its a no brainer to pay $75 to $100 a month for full coverage while you own the car, then get money back when you sell it.

TIA

I am not sure if Ally requires car to be under warranty, but you can check. They quoted me 4 yrs/48K mi. for my F06 at $4500 and 18 mo. 0% financing. $100 deductible but I spoke with 2 SAs who said Ally is good about claims.

https://www.ally.com/auto/vehicle-pr...contracts.html

I have only had to go once for a failed coil and it was hassle-free at my BMW dealer. They covered the coil (not the plug) and approved it same day.

The warranty on my car runs out early next year and, given the horror stories on here concerning engine failure, I thought I'd take a quick look to see how much aftermarket cover would be. Normally I wouldn't bother on a low mileage, regularly serviced car.

Warranty Direct UK gave a me a quote of £25pm to cover engine, drive train and ECUs. To mitigate against a potential £30-35k engine replacement I thought that quite reasonable. The quote included an uncapped labour rate so that BMW main dealers would not be excluded.

I would be interested to know what other UK owners have done, or plan to do, about extended warranty and the costs involved. I've yet to ask BMW but from previous experience I know it will be expensive.

I called a place that my brother has used for extended warranties on his high end cars and they quoted me $3,000 for 5 years and 75,000 miles. This was for 100% coverage. I am trying to get details on the underwriter and the plan so I can really understand what they are offering.

On the surface it seems too good to be true.

For my 2016 BMW M6 GC with 23k miles, I got Easycare's Totalcare warranty for 7 years 100,000 miles for $3660 full coverage literally covers everything, with $100 deductible and $50 a day rental car coverage. It even covers tires and rims, minus curb rash but blown tires and bent or cracked rims are fully covered too!

The only thing is that the warranty starts from the in service date, which was 11/16 for my car so it pushed the "7 year warranty" another 4 years until 11/2023. Its not 7 years from when you purchase it. My car is still under the original bmw manufacture warranty until 11/2020

Whats the funny is that the 84 months/100k miles was $4385 versus the 84 months/74k for $4421 lol ignore the $4000, that was just me writing down their original negotiation from another bmw dealer who i didnt go with. But yeah ive attached the system generated print out for all the prices for a 2016 bmw m6 with 23k miles

The prices for the picture could be lower depending on what you get but i wanted a certain monthly payment so the finance guy took off money on certain warranties and moved it to others to get the price I wanted in total so you should be able to get it cheaper. Oh and easycare's warranty gives you a prorated refund if you dont use it completely by 7 years and it is fully transferable.

I bought it from a bmw dealership. You can find out more information about coverage here: https://easycare.com/vehicle-service-contracts/ under the TotalCare section for each car area/section

Also the BMW maintenance refresh (the option to continue the original 4 years of manufacture covered maintenance when buying a used car, since its no longer automatically transferred) costs the dealer $200 but they up mark it $700 so make sure you negotiate!

If you guys have any questions, let me know!
