Exclamation Temps drop to 40s & TPMS lights up like Xmas

The ambient temps dropped down into the mid 40°F last night (first time this fall below 50° F)...and half way down the street the TPMS lit up like Xmas.

Back in May (this year) was the last time I actually reset the system with a 38 PSI on all 4 wheels. Up until this morning all the wheels were still green and had only lost approx 4 PSI.

But this morning with the temp drop...I got this (see images below). I guess it's time to pull out the tire gauge and air compressor:

Anybody else get hit recently by cooler ambient temps?

Happened to me at the north rim of the Grand Canyon a week ago in my X3. All four tires showed low. It will happen to my 650 soon enough. Seems like it can be as little as 5 pounds difference to trigger it. I did not know pre-LCI cars showed the tire temp as well. Mine doesn't.

Mine does only thanks to BimmerCode...it's codeable. And it also may depend on the sensors in the wheels, as well. If I remember correctly, it was kind of eluded to in the BMW tech info about TPMS that some sensors can send temp as well as pressure data.

All 4 tires lit up. Pressures between 30 and 32psi. Verified manually.
Same on my X5, but only two tires lit up.

Yes, it is normal and usual as cold air contracts. But be careful when filling up the pressures to normal upper 30's. As the temps warm up and when the tires warm when driving, tire pressures could go up to 45. This transition time is always a challenge if you're obsessive about tire pressures.

I'm sure you already know this though!

No problem here...I get it that many times the discourse/discussion needs to be written to the collective (not just to the OP)...because many of the forum members are "silent"...never really engaging in the threads...but only read them (this is evident in the number of actual "replies" vs the "views").

got cold here and the TPS warning came on. I filled all to 35 psi, then took a 20 min drive. the low pressure warning won't go off . . . .grrrr. There is frost on the ground this morning and 35F, will be 70F later this afternoon, maybe the warning will disappear then.

As I said in the other thread, try resetting the system. When you fill your tires to whatever you want them to be, then reset the system, it will view that as the new normal, and measure drops from there. If you fill your tires to 45 and reset it, then reduce the pressure to 35, it will say you are low even though you are not.

Ditto Opie...when you get the warning that the tires are low...when you refill the tires...you need to go into iDrive and INIT (re-initialize) the system.

The warning does not reset itself automatically just because the tire pressure went up. It has no way of knowing that it was you that put air in the tires...all it knows is that the pressure increased and the temperature probably went up. But that could be due to ambient temperature and driving heated up the tires which caused the pressure to expand.

You have to MANUALLY reinitialize the system when you change the air pressure (if the warning light came on) or change a wheel/tire to set a new "base". The system will not turn off the warning automatically.

If you don't know how to reset it...the instructions are in both your physical owners manual...or you can pull up the instructions in iDrive.
