Getting my GC back!

Dropped her off at the dealer for a rear bumper replacement - it had been damaged while in for warranty work. It’s supposed to be ready this afternoon. Any helpful hints on inspecting the new paint, etc.?

For life and Beyond!! You make a good point, Derek. I’d hate to be stuck with a peeling bumper 2 years from now.

If there is overspray anywhere, that means they painted a new bumper cover while it was on the car. If that happened, people should go to prison.

Got her back

Got her back. They did a great job. No overspray, but then again there shouldn’t have been, they replaced the whole bumper cover. They most likely painted it off of the car. Will do a mini detail tomorrow. Can’t wait. It’s so great to have the 640 back. I spent a week in am X3 and it was ok, but nothing like the 6. Different universes.

I can’t tell you how many CPO 6ers I went through to find one that didn’t have overspray under the front bumper. I was shocked and one sales guy said I was the first guy he has seen look under the car like that.
This is how I expect the underside to look.

I have to admit that when I bought mine, I did not inspect mine as thoroughly as you did! It seems to me that any 6 that has been driven (especially with the M Sport package) would have had some road rash from steep driveway entrances on the underside. I’ve ‘crunched’ it a couple of times myself.

Went over the whole car with Meguiar’s Ultimate Quick Detailer yesterday and saw that hey actually did a great job. They replaced the whole bumper cover and it seems like they handled the car with kid gloves while they had it. Which is understandable, considering how much their screw up cost to repair. That bumper cover alone is like $1100.00. Anyhow. I’m happy with it and more than happy to have my car back. Driving out to Palm Springs on Saturday! Should be fun. Have a great weekend!

Tempting as it may be, I'd strongly advise detailing anything that has been freshly painted. Leave it a good 2-3 weeks at least to let the paint fully harden.

Thanks! That’s very helpful. All I did was hit it with Meguiar’s Ultimate Quick Detailer. I won’t wax or anything like that for a month or so.

The crap that I've seen during my hunt for my 6er was mind boggling. I don't mind even calling them out! Bob Smith BMW was respraying CPO cars on top of their parking garage in makeshift booths. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I do believe that! That’s probably the reason that my dealer had to buy me a new bumper. See, they damaged it when it was in for warranty work and the first repair was awful. Paint bubbles, uneven coverage, etc. I had to practically throw a fit, but then they capitulated. Perhaps the Bob Smith situation was that they hired one of these ‘fix your bumper curbside’ guys. I actually hired one for a 2005 330ci that I had in Imola Red. Gorgeous car, MSport and all that. But the rear bumper actually had a couple of holes in it after ten years. The guy did a reasonably good job! It looked a million times better, but it wasn’t a job that I would have accepted for a car like my GC. I suspect that’s what my dealer did the first time. Anyhow. We had to stay on top of these shysters. They’ll always try to get buy on the cheap. Lol! The car Biz.I hope I don’t have to bring mine in for a long time.

Glad u got it fixed man
I need the same after a hit and run.
I got the dummy's plate number before he swerved off. Waiting to see if his insurance pays.
If not guess I'll just go thru my own insurance or get one of my paint guys to do it.

That sucks! Isn’t hit and run a felony?

This is how they were repainting their CPO cars. I bet in a couple years this will look like crap.
The salesman sent me this picture and I ran for the hills.
