Upgraded to LCI iDrive Screen

After upgrading to the newer iDrive controller, I found a good deal on a used LCI screen which is much cleaner looking and modern than the older unit.

Was new controller plug n play or did it require coding? Did you pop out or remove center console

Plug and play however I didn't bother with the touch module which would require coding. I just wanted the bigger knob...

And yes you need to take out the centre console. There's a guide on here in another thread if you search for it.

Looks great. I've been thinking of upgrading it as well. Do you mind sharing info on where you got the parts from & how much did it cost you ?

I got the screen used on eBay for £200 and the rear housing from my local dealer for £40.

To be clear, you still get the old display on the new screen. Your pics seem to show the nbt running idrive 5 or 6, ccc runs idrive 4. Also, the new screen simply plugged in with same plugs?

My car already came with NBT. This photos are just two different cars that I found on google to illustrate the difference in hardware.

This isn’t an iDrive upgrade. Just a new monitor so yes whatever was on screen before will be the same but the quality of the new display is far superior. Yes new screen was plug and play. Straight swap over with no modifications required.

If anyone else is interested in doing this, you need the screen and the the matching rear housing.

The job is plug and play and took me half an hour.

1. Remove black trim above steering column.
2. Remove centre trim complete with vents (this along with the trim above pop off fairly easily) and unplug the three connectors. Set this aside.
3. Unscrew two torx bolts below the iDrive screen and then gently pop it out of the housing before unplugging the electrical connector going into the back of it.
4. Unscrew the two torx bolts that attach the rear housing to the dash.
5. Complete in reverse.

It's an easy job.

iDrive screen part number: 9332142 (note that if your car comes with the TV tuner option you may require a different screen part number)
Rear housing: 936647 (again may be different re. above to accommodate screen with tuner).
hi man!

the parts number 9332142 and 936647 cant be found at ebay or google

My apologies. In my haste I messed up the numbers. I've corrected them in the first post.

Screen is 9332412 and Rear cover is 9364647.

Google either number with "BMW" before or after and you'll find what you seek.

Hey I am completely new to this platform. Can someone explain to me the benefits of the newer i-drive systems? (I'm coming from e86s) I am picking my 650 (2012) up tonight and want to know if I should start searching the web for the newer screen?

CJ, the 2012 has the older cic system, NBT has a higher res screen, some more features (idrive 5 versus i drive 4), bigger controller, letter input, nicer colors. I was quoted $3,300 for the upgrade (plus install) but the loss of sat radio was a deal breaker for me

I don't understand why you can't have the SAT radio anymore after the upgrade. Can someone explain that to me?

"so no more DAB?" Not sure, we were talking about Sirius/XM Sat Radio, not the UK DAB sat radio.
