Motor racing is an innovative sport when it comes to engines and cars, but there is also a lot of innovation in the peripheral areas. One of the recent developments is a biometric shirt that drivers are able to use. The FIA has approved a new fire-resistant and biometric shirt from Marelli and OMP Racing.


"VISM"

The shirt is short for "VISM" which stands for 'Vital Signs Monitor' and this has come about through a collaboration between Marelli and OMP Racing. Apart from being fire resistant, this shirt is also equipped with a system that can read vital signs from the driver and communicate them to people at the pit wall.

That VISM shirt is amazing and can give early warning if a driver has unusually high heart beat etc and pit crew can call the driver in.
I've seen something similar in science fiction films where crew from spaceship are out and about in breathing gear having their vital signs monitored from hq.

Superb picture my friend. I've been studying the lower set front suspension arms of the RB as opposed the the Merc's higher wider set up.

After perusing over it for a while what's apparent to me is the whole W11 wheelbase is around 3 or more inches further back than the 16 no doubt to accommodate this toe in/out configuration.
The top front suspension config in 11 is far back to accommodate the toe adjustment knuckle. Wonder how it would stand up to a wheel bang when in close quarters with others,I can see this being a possible weakness there.

Yeah my friend . The W11 set up of the front suspension connection looks also much higher.
Perhaps that improves the front body stiffness in cornering..

The top front support is certainly beefier on the 16 and thinner on 11 though this is balanced out by the more depth spread out bottom front arm on the 11,it looks also like a thin spoiler strengthening the bottom arm there.

At this time we can hope, at least 'something' has been scrabbled together by Liberty. The most important thing is for RB to get ahead of W11 at the start,the special set up of the 16 enhances overtakes from seemingly impossible angles however good the moving Merc toe steering performs and it seems a Merc driver overdid it with distasteful comment to Marko which has now been retracted with an apology.

I didn't know also but looking it up now a stone thrown by Fittipaldi's Lotus hit his left eye ending his motor racing career as a driver. The visors then were clearly too thin and were one of the many safety things that Jackie Stewart at the time was addressing but sadly too late for Helmut.

My friend, what did you think about the cars then from that era, I'm thinking they were the ugliest ever with their flat 'board' plain body designs and hideous plywood type wings.. only from about '75 they started getting more rounder shape and meaningful design.

Yeah . When I watch the old videos from that era , the first thing I notice is how high the driver is sitting in the car .
It actually looks weird . Shoulders from the driver stick out above the side of the car , and that was really dangerous .
As for the cars , they actually look funny and out of proportion .
Check out Senna's shoulders ..
