Confused about onboard wifi compatibility/ and retrofiCarPlay activation
I have a 2017 f06 bmw 640i and I've been looking at ways I can install applecarplay onto the NBT evo Gxxxxx. I bought the software and installed over eBay but it would not popup so assumed that I did not have a wifi antenna and do not want to take apart my dash so I got a refund for the software and sadly stopped my process of trying to install CarPlay.
I have discovered however that I have an internet hotspot. When I go on wifi on my iPhone my name and bmw pop up under possible wifi connections (xxxx's BMW) to which I can connect to and it takes me to tmobile to purchase wifi for the car. I also can purchase bmw remote services for like $120 a year through the bmw app and it says bmw wifi hotspot capability comes with my car. So Im confused on how all these features are available but CarPlay which I downloaded does not pop up because supposedly of no wifi antenna. Any advice would be appreciated and I can pm the vin if needed. Thanks so much, maybe this can help others too. |

Hi, most likely you got the wifi antenna but I think you will have to flash your unit with feature installer to add fsc codes. You need enet cable for that. Also CarPlay would work without antenna the only problem is you can’t get good signal in the car, phone would connect only if is in your cup holders and even there it keeps disconnecting.
