BMC filters feedback

Has anyone have had any positive or negative feedback on the BMC filters? Any issues? Any benefits? I am going to be replacing my air filters (have already removed the carbon filters) and was wondering if I should replace the OEM with BMC.
I do have the Acrapovic Titanium M performance exhaust on my M6.
Thanks

PS I read about some oil MAF issues...

Some people run them with no issues, some get MAF sensor issues because of the oil. Safe bet? Dry filters. i.e. AFE dry filters. Personally, I don't think the risk is worth it with the oil filters because it's not like oiled vs non is giving folks XX more HP. And for the record, I'm not anti BMC as I run them on my Porsche.

BMC is great, but def don't run oiled. I had issues and had to use a MAF cleaner cause the car didn't like it at all.

I run dry filters now, theres some cheap ones but great quality off Amazon.
I just replace them instead of cleaning them (more frequently) to compensate

So these filters come heavily oiled or do you need to spray oil? Anything non oiled equivalent but top quality that limits restrictions? Thanks

Do you feel any difference in sound or vehicle responsiveness? I assume not

I used BMC filters for a year no problems , Now I have RK Carbon front mount intakes with oiled K&N filters for a year no problems, when you get the filters new , lay down some paper towels and spray some compressed air over them to push out any residual oil there may be.
The sound from BMC or any other panel filter won’t make any difference in sound
There is always gonna be a film of oil in the intake tubes because the PCV Valves are piped directly into the intakes

I dont feel any significant difference but AFAIK oiled air filters are less restrictive then the dry ones.

I prefer dry filters also. No messy oil whatsoever.

Thank you for the input, after some research I agree and will go with the dry filter. I am just trying to confirm which dry filter out there, regardless of cost, is better than OEM and one of the best performance and quality. I am leaning towards aFe...

If you would like I can share a datalog to compare the airflow between aFe & OEM.

M6Roar, Did your data log show more air flow with AFE? Oiled or dry?

Did you go with AFE dry air filters?

Thanks

I didnt notice any significant difference but that might be due to the tune not accounting for the additional flow.

If you check the website you will notice that the airflow increment is only mentioned on the oiled filter so I assume for the dry filter the change in flow is subtle.

This is another option by Eventuri (never tried it but the price is fairly reasonable)

So basically dry filters are no better than OE filters. That's what I assumed.

Typically M cars are tuned and designed near their max performance.

The only logical explanation that I might think of for these aftermarket dry filters is reaching the required flow faster than the OEM but it cannot go above the OEM airflow (Not sure if there is logic in that ). That is just my opinion.

Thank you all for the feedback, based on the information provided by the OEM manufacturer and the after market manufacturer there appears to be a difference in the airflow (maybe not enough to make a measurable difference and the uncertainty and margin from engine to engine might be larger than that). However, the design and materials appear to be superior on the aftermarket (aFe on this case) using cotton blend that allows for a larger fold and more airflow (20-30%) after a chat with a tech at aFe that explained the differences in design philosophy. It is also reusable and the OEM paper degrade faster for reduction in airflow with time/use. Not a game changer but a higher quality alternative which I have concluded it is a good match for the high quality of parts and technology this engine has.

At this point I am not really looking for 100s of HP more, since I need to replace my OEM filter I was looking for a "better" part for my car since I also have the M performance Acrapovic exhaust it may help. I am planning on going with the aFe dry S filter.

Cheers and stay safe
