There are multiple vendors (not just the one linked above) that sell the nav map updates for less than the BMW dealerships. It's that simple. As repeatedly stated...you can buy the maps already on a thumbdrive, or pay for a download to your own supplied thumbdrive...or go the totally free route (again, there are tons of info on how to do this by doing a simple google search).

In my opinion, you are spending extra money for nothing. The place I tried to mention above sells the same files you get from BMW for half that price. I've done it more than once on more than one car. If you download the files yourself, you need minimal competence to format a thumb drive, and you can download while you watch TV (it takes while). Then pop in the thumb drive and just go for a drive for 20 minutes or so while it downloads to your car. Few people have less computer literacy than I do. If you don't want to spend your time doing that, just buy a thumb drive already loaded from them. Still cheaper than the dealer.

I also updated my navigation on my 2015 650i today by purchasing a lifetime FSC code and new maps for $50 from https://bimmernaviupdate.com. I bought my own 32 gig thumbdrive for $6 but turns out when formated it is actually 28 gigs and was unfortunately 313 mb short of fitting all of the files on the drive (beware of a 32 Gig drive). So, I bought a 256 Gig thumbdrive for $37 and it worked great for uploading the files. They sent the download link within a few minutes and it took about 20 minutes to download the 29 Gig of files. Just watch the video for install instructions, which are easy and painless. Once the correct files were on the thumbdrive (video makes this clear), I plugged it into the center console USB and the car immediately recognized the files and asked for permission to update. The car did the rest. I will now use the drive to upload music or video files the card hard drive for times when I want to use that instead of my phone.

Ok, it went in with no issues in about 35 minutes.
I just fired up the car and then installed the usb stick into the port in the center armrest compartment. One thing of note, the system did not prompt me to enter the activation code. The instructions stated that if the code is not requested, you either have a current map subscription or it may request the code within 2 driving cycles. I’m not sure how to check if you have a current subscription though. |

I would definitely give them a call and inquire as to an estimated time of arrival. Perhaps they've been flooded with lots of requests for new maps...or perhaps people are off on vacation etc and they are behind schedule. Good luck.

Far out, bimmernaviupdate.com is the rudest vendor I have ever dealt with.
I was a bit skeptical about them actually having 2019 map data (even though clearly listed on their website as 2019) for my region as no one else does, still decided to proceed... Not surprisingly at all a link to 2018 maps was sent out to me. Still waiting for my refund, apparently the dude does have 2019 data but just does not want to deal with me anymore as I am way too impatient. What a twat |

Ordered my 2019-2 database this past Sunday night from Bimmernaviupdate.com. Had everything needed for the update within 30 minutes (FSC included). Updated the car Monday morning on my drive. Took 35 minutes. Done.
I have verified it is the 2019-2 update. L |

I just thought of something...if you purchased a thumbdrive (from BMW or one of the aftermarket vendors)...can you reuse that same thumbdrive the next time on one of the free downloads?
Just asking because the reason I didn't do the free downloads is that I didn't want to mess around with making sure the thumbdrive was FAT32 etc and all the other stuff required for the files to be uploaded to the thumbdrive. But if all you need to do is drag the existing files to the trash...then download and install whatever the next update is to the old thumbdrive...I'll make sure to hold onto it and don't screw it up by changing anything about it. Again, just curious...and if the TECH SAVVY among us know if I'm thinking correctly.

...looks like my next map update may be a lot cheaper.

There is a process to loading the data onto the thumb drive, however I see no reason to get a new thumb drive each time. I will keep the email in a file for my car, that describes the process for the data transfer. I plan to reuse my thumb drive.
