so my 640i gc from 2015 puchased in 2018 certified with a killer extra warranty that expired October 1st. The car was at the dealer for an expansion tank and oil pan gasket, as well as a driver seat frame replacement so they hold it for 7 weeks cuz of parts. I get it back funny smell to the car but thinkin its the degreaser they used to clean the oil pan leak mess so my warranty pays 8k bill, then it expires I pick the car up 5 days later my transmission while i'm in sport plus "manual mode" going through gears, i dropped to 2nd gear taking the exit and the car just slips and catches with a clunk force.

Now i have been complaing about a whining sound for months that they cant seem to find duplicate now this shit happens car wont even move it literally moves and bam neutral and it locks out to P only.

Bmw calls me says the gear exploded in the trans it showing codes for all 6 clutches being out of wack car has 81,000 miles that visited the dealer every 6 months. THIS SUCKS you can barely find a zf8 disaster they are usually reliable.. oh well lucky me

they are gonna try Monday to hit my cna warranty that expired for it but i don't see them wanting to pay for it since i complained about the whine i might be in luck though.

As option number 2 he said there was a "fault" for a major pothole hit and i can call my insurance and blame the transmission failure due to the pothole and that there is a code fault to back it up LOL crazy right

on a third note i could not write this car off it is essentially in mint condition minus the trans this car was just so well kept well maintained it boggles me to see this car just get written off like that. I can always get an indy i know to swap it out worst case scenario for another trans

Sorry to hear this. I also own a 640i and shift gears manually on occasion. How much did the dealer quote you for the transmission repair?

they did not qoute me yet as they are going back and forth with my insurance company to prove that it was not wear and tear but internal failure that caused it.

My 2009 135i was replaced under cpo warranty for about 12k. I suspect the zf8 will cost about 13-16k.

Haha no they do not, it was dealers stupid idea they said there was a code indicating some sort of impact caused it needless to say they did not cover it of course. I purchased a used 740i xdrive transmission for 1,000 usd with 71k miles on it and will swap it in this up coming week. I sourced it from "Prussian Motors" up in Norristown, Pa.
