IMO, cleaning the oil up and removing the drive belt should have been included in changing the oil filter housing gasket.

Not sure about dealer price....

Also pretty sure you need a different oil - I use 0-40 grade oil... Not the standard 5-30

Prices seem reasonable assuming this is a reputable shop using good quality parts and providing a warranty.

I can never understand when people critique reasonable price quotes and say they can do it themselves. Maybe his time is worth more than repairing his car himself or it's out of the realm of what he's comfortable doing. I think it's a given that it will be cheaper if he does it himself.

Sorry, can't help but feel a bit good being able to avoid the above. I don't think I would have lasted this long with BMW if I didn't learn how to diagnose and fix things myself. Also often see people get fed up of bills if they become more common. Who wants to spend a few k a year on just labour even for a car like this? (worst case scenario). Love the car, but also ready for the maintenance that will creep up. Op posted the invoice for us to comment. If op can he should have done it himself. Otherwise seek another garage. Me I use a garage to do work I cannot be bothered with (anything under the car tbh). Took me a while to find someone who charges £150 labour only on a clutch job for eg.

Sometimes it's better to go around garages with the part ready asking for a labour only quote. Tell them you diagnosed it. They like that - they won't be liable if it doesn't fix the problem when it's you telling them what to do. =Better price on labour.
