While he’s in there, oil filter housing leal
oil filter housing leak getting repaired. Should I do a water pump while it’s torn apart? Only paying for the pump at that point. Alternator? Belts?

I definitely would not replace the alternator at those miles. Idler pulley and belt(s) make more sense as preventative maintenance items. If it is truly just the parts cost then a pump and thermostat would be ok if not too pricey. Kind of depends on how long you plan on keeping the car, and how common a failure point those parts are on that engine.

The belt, 100% yes. Oil leaks will kill a belt and the potential of a broken belt to get sucked into the N55 motor via crank seal is there.
The rest I wouldn’t touch unless there is some pulley noise which any good mechanic can diagnose. Last edited by Derekz4; 11-20-2021 at 02:26 PM.. |

Suggest you get some dye and a black light. Wash the engine with a good de-greaser, pour the dye in the engine and run the engine in a low light area and look for the source with the black light. With oil all over the area, it is hard to be sure where it is coming from.
Good luck
