Rev matching?
I have searched on here but cannot find a definitive answer.
Does the M6 rev match, especially on downshifts? Even though I've tried various driving modes I've never heard it. The short blip of the throttle on downshifts was one of the things I really liked about the V10 M6 and a previous Audi RS. I would love to go out and try again but I'm locked in one country and my car in another. I haven't seen the car since late January but BMW Connected says it's still where I left it If it can be done it will give me something to try when we get re-united. |

Odd question. If you're talking about a 6MT, the system has an auto rev match in sport and normal modes. In sport plus, system turns off so you'll have to do it yourself.
If you're talking about DCT, it always rev matches in any mode with any shift speed setting. That's the whole point of the DCT

Yes, I am talking about DCT and I do not notice an audible blip on downshifts. The SMG is slower which maybe the reason it was more pronounced but the RS5 was by no means slow and yet the blip was quite obvious. I'm simply asking is there an audible throttle blip on downshifts that I've just not noticed and reading the responses it seems I'm not the only one. |

Technically speaking, every time you downshift and upshift, it's a matching of driveshaft and flywheel speeds. Doesn't make a noise? Car is not silent. If RPMs rise, there's an increase of sound. The location on the rev range where the match happens determines how loud the noise is, simply put it's how loud the engine is at that RPM when the clutch is fully engaged with the flywheel. OP already has indicated he's not driving his car he's just watching videos. When you drive the car it's going to be obvious, it's as mechanical as it gets. You're literally asking how a manual transmission works. Put it this way, at 60 mph going from 6th gear to 5th gear is a lot quieter than going from 6th to 2nd. The former will match from 2000 RPMs to 3000 RPMs, the latter will match from 2000 to near 8000 RPMs, essentially, redline in 2nd. And that's as loud as the car gets.

With the windows don you can fairly clearly hear it blipping the throttle in a DCT no matter what the situation is.

Thanks to everyone who replied.
I guess with a stock exhaust and an well insulated cabin I'm not going to hear much unless i have the windows open. The English climate doesn't provide too many opprtunities for fresh air driving but I will try it next time I'm in the car. If I still don't hear anything then perhaps an appointment with the ENT Dept is in order Take care all. |

Got bored yesterday, and went for a drive, can confirm it definitely rev-matches. Can't heard anything worth a damn even with the MPE due to the sound deadening that the interior has. But windows down and in a tunnel...
