I Got Called a Racist While Ordering Mexican Food on the Phone

Thrift store hopping can be very intense, especially if you have an agenda on select items. There is always a slight impulse to get hands on an item spotted across the store before someone nabs it.

I bee-line to a leather purse I see hanging on a back wall. As I'm walking towards it, a lady slowly browses over and parks her buggy in in front of the general area of the purse. She's not looking at the purse, she's standing 6 feet way from her cart. I reach over the front 6 inches of her cart to get the purse.

Of course, she owned the space and had to say something. "I was going to look at that".
Me:

Places it in her cart…

Then she gets a little angry. "You didn't have to do that. I didn't mean for that".
Me: "Thanks!" and grabs the purse back out of the cart and steps aside to examine it. Flipped over the tag- fake leather. "Me, it's fake AF anyway". She says "Damn" then apologizes. "I wasn't trying to be a Karen". Me LOL No problem. She keeps the purse anyways.

While in the area a huge Latino family walks in speaking Spanish. They begin browsing and holding up clothes, no biggie. I get a text from hubby "Food Bitch". We text that to each other which means "what's for dinner."

I wanted Mexican, so he texts me his order and I call the place to order while shopping.
Chilies poblanos
Loaded nachos
Pico de gallo…

The order went on, while I'm standing near Latino family. When I wrap up the call, purse space lady comes back and says, "It's not nice making fun of other nationalities". Me: WTF? I was ordering dinner.

She then says "yeah right" and calls me racist, and loudly apologizes to the family on my behalf. The family looks bewildered and pauses shopping. Purse lady continues blabbing about equality… when I broke her conversation to ask the family a question… IN SPANISH.

Now the lady looks confused as she has been immediately omitted from the conversation by sheer language barrier.

The father turns to her and says in English: "Sorry we're talking about people who speak English slowly and loudly when they don't think the people they're talking to understand English."

She stands there for a second. At this moment the store is mixed with quiet and people chuckling.
She abandons her cart and leaves the store.
I reach in her cart to get the LEATHER purse back… it was real leather LOOOOOL

Where on the Buford did you get it from? I still havent found a tamale (on the reg) that lives up to my standards. The few places that blow my mind only do them as a special.

I saw that post and was like huh? Loads of people are funny that are not gender benders.

I will avoid the PC stuff, cause I am definitely NOT PC. Never have been, never will be. I am me. UNIQUE.

But Dayum hun, that was flat out funny as can be. Especially the "Spanish" part. Then dude jumps in talking about what I have also found myself doing some 10+++++ years ago and I now laugh at myself for it. Plus I do have some skillz with Spanish, baby skills maybe, but, I get by.
