you have to buy an f15 x5 display panel and find a f06/f12/f13 pre-lci idrive housing and dismantle the x5 screen and then open up the f06 pre lci display housing and put the x5 display in the pre lci f06 housing..

Sounds hard but it's been done and parts are easy to find. The shroud for the screen is $45 on esctuning. I believe u need a newer head unit too.

Hate to be that guy, but never quite understood touch screen in cars, especially with the BMW screen placement. Seems a sub-optimal experience. Love, love the iDrive controller.

I'm with you on this. From a human-machine interface perspective in the 6er it makes no sense. I'm average height at 6ft and my driving position means that I am not within natural reach of the iDrive screen at all. And about all those fingerprint smudges all over the screen...

But to each their own. I've certainly contemplated some weird retrofits in my time

6er I drive touchscreen

Cheers people. Answered my question regarding this matter. It now makes perfect sense for the 6 series not to have touchscreen. Many thanks.

I'm rather glad the screen ISNT touch screen. Yes the idrive controller is more than good enough and very intuitive. Being right handed the ability to draw letters on the idrive knob controller is pointless for me. My Range Rover does have a touch screen and I just dont use it, the finger prints drive me bonkers

For some reason I can't start a new thread, so I'll ask it here. Can the display screen of an f10 fit a f13 without cutting or splicing?

I'm also looking into the options of adding a touchscreen to my NBT EVO retrofit. I found a link somewhere that someone did, but didn't have any real details…

I'm 6'2" (all lanky legs) and my fingers are nowhere near that screen. Gotta say though, it can take quite a long time entering a postcode/zipcode with the iDrive spinny thingy...

It sucks that those of us with 3G lost the ability to send an address to the vehicle using our phones.

But there's also voice...have you tried to use that feature? If not, it may take some trial & error to figure out the best way to speak destinations to the nav.

Found the link to the touchscreen retrofit. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot of detail. I may end up purchasing an F15 screen and attempt to retrofit and post back here. Trimming the top of the glass screen is mentioned, hoping someone else has more details on this they can share before I begin. If there's another glass screen that fits without cutting I'd rather do that.

I'm still able to use the app to send a destination to the car? I tend to use that feature if I'm planning a journey. Plus, I'm guessing that an exact location is being sent?

I've only used voice control for initialising a phone call, but I will give navigational instructions a try!

I concur. Ergonomically speaking, I find using the iDrive controller to be more natural than reaching to screen. Combined with touch sensitivity so that I can draw letters when the system doesn’t comprehend verbal input, it’s a win.

“Take me to X street address, Y city, Z state” works 99.5% of the time. Am thrilled with how well verbal commands are understood, and how clear my phone conversations are on the other end. I’d given up completely on the same in 2014 Maserati QP GTS (may it RIP).
