Remove A-pillar trim on convertible

I am installing a Carplay unit and need to access the mic. As I am guessing it is located above the rear view mirror I need to take trim off to run a cable all the way from the center console. Does anybody have some pointers or video links I can use?

Thanks!

Thanks, but I do not think that is from the same model? Both the first picture and the fastening of the trim is a bit different (eg has no plastic cover with screw under). Maybe the convertible differs?

Edit: upon closer inspection I think that this actually is right.

Another question is that if anyone can confirm where the microphone actually is mounted. Maybe I am totally wrong in ripping the trim on the ceiling?

The location of the microphones differ depending on how the vehicle is optioned….and/or if you have a convertible vs the 2 & 4 door coupes. The 2 & 4 door coupes mics are in the headliner (see B3 & B2 or B265 (for B&O system) below:

Since the convertibles don't have a solid "headliner"...their microphone is in a different location. See the illustration below...B3 & B2 are the microphone locations for the convertibles for the basic & HK systems. B265 is the combined mic location for the B&O audio system on the convertibles. The mics (on the convertible) are located in the shroud/trim around the steering wheel column. I can’t find an illustration of where B2 is located on the convertible (sorry).

If you have the B&O system…your microphone is B265 in the illustration below:

Microphone (for Bang & Olufsen)

The microphone is e.g. always installed with optional equipment SA6F2 "Bang & Olufsen High End Surround Sound System".

The microphone is a combination microphone. That means: The following 2 microphones are installed in one housing:

1 microphone for hands-free mode when making phone calls, and for voice input to the voice processing system.
1 microphone for volume adjustment of SA6F2

The microphone records the prevailing sounds in the passenger compartment. This allows the audio playback volume to be adjusted accordingly.

The 2 microphones have separate circuits.

Functional description

Depending on the vehicle equipment, the two microphones are connected directly to the corresponding control unit via separate circuitry and plug connections.

Microphone for hands-free mode and SVS

The microphone is, for example, connected directly to the Telematic Control Unit or interface box or Combox or headunit. Using the MOST interface on the control unit, the digital signal is also provided to other bus users on the MOST network.

Microphone for volume adjustment for equipment with SA6F2

The microphone is connected directly to the premium Top HiFi amplifier or High End audio amplifier.

The microphones differ, for example, in their directivity. The directivity of a microphone is its ability to pick up sound waves from different source directions at different volumes. For example, a microphone with the corresponding level of directivity picks up sounds waves from a specific direction particularly clearly and loudly. Sound waves from the remaining surrounding area are to a large extent suppressed.

The microphone for hands-free mode and SVS has cardioid directional characteristics. The microphone picks up sound waves from a specific direction particularly effectively.

The microphone for volume adjustment for equipment with SA6F2 has omnidirectional directivity. The microphone picks up sound waves from all directions almost equally.

For clear assignment, the plug connections for the microphones are colour-coded.

1. Microphone
2. 3-Pin plug connection (colour: bordeaux purple), connection for the microphone for hands-free mode and the voice processing system
3. 3-Pin plug connection (colour: blue), connection for the microphone to volume adjustment on SA6F2

I installed a CarPlay unit on my 2014 convertible and didn't have to do anything with the microphone. Pretty much plug & play except for dash disassembly.

Thanks, this is exactly what I needed! I do not have the B&O option. It seems like my microphone is behind the steering weel. Now i just need to figure out how to remove the trim get to it…

You sir, are a true gentleman! You have access to a wealth of instructions and it is very kind of you to share.

Do you have the part number for the dual mic mate?
