Rockchips on the hood

Hey folks, can someone confirm what material the M6 hood is made of?
I got some deep rock chips and wondering if it will rust

Thanks!

My understanding is that the standard hood (or bonnet as we call it in the UK!) is made of an aluminium alloy. So it won't rust, but if the surface is broken then aluminium corrosion could ultimately occur if it is left untreated. If it doesn't warrant a respray, then I suggest getting the relevant touchup paint kit from BMW.

If it does rust BMW has a rust warranty, think it's 10 or 12 years.

Just FYI, DrColorchip makes a product with instructions that some consider a much more sophisticated approach to chip remediation than the "fingernail polish & brush" method you can get at a dealer. They have tons of OEM paint codes.
