'14 640 entire digital instrument cluster blank - help

On car start this morning, the entire digital dash is blank or not coming on. The HUD wasn't working either. The only thing I could see was the "D" for drive. Is there anything to try in this case? Thanks.

Happened to me one time .... I shut off the car for about 14 min and came back and it was just fine

If it happens again or if it does occur randomly, I would take it to the dealer. Perhaps an update to the KOMBI ecu to the latest software helps. Sometime these "annoyances" do get cleared by means of a software update. If you had experience with ISTA (Rheingold) for example, you could diagnose it yourself to see if there are any saved error messages in there. The dealer will find out in no time once they hook up to the OBD, if that is the case.

yep mine blinks out every now and then. An old fashioned Microsoft reboot fixes it. Is yours staying off even when the system is rebooted?

Thanks for the responses. Fortunately after letting the car sit for the day while I was working it came back on. It's been several days since so I'm hoping it was just some random fluke.

Call me old fashioned, but this is why I still like real dials. Sometimes we're just creating solutions in search of a problem.

My BMW's dash is all digital, and while it fortunately hasn't "gone blank" on me (yet), I just find it completely unnecessary. 99% of the time it's simply displaying instrumentation that's mimicking real dials. And even if it DID switch to another view, I likely wouldn't do it - I want to see the dials.

Meanwhile, when a strong sun beams in on the dash, what do you know... it's as good as blank. The sun washes out the display.

I enjoy modern technology, but in some cases it's not warranted - I've gotten no additional value from my BMW's display being digital versus analog, and in some cases, it's been a drawback - that makes it a "fail" in my book.
