Let me know what the issue ends up being. I use an ATT microcell for better cell signal at my house and I figured that its been messing with the cars cell signal because i don't get the error when I'm not at home.

The SOS emergency call malfunction requires an overnight dealer reflash of the ECU's. I learned it the hard way and had to reflash and recode the entire car all over again.
It kept coming up periodically for me and the SOS button still worked as it should but I was annoyed so I took it in thinking it was a hardware issue. Ended up being software. It started happening at around 2k miles on the odometer. |

There is a TSB "Technical Service Bulletin" from BMW on this issue.
It is common on most F chassis cars. First step is software update then if continues they replace the module. All depending on the codes of course but generally its short to ground fault codes. |

Same thing happened to me. I brought it to the dealer and they had to do a software up date. After that the message no longer appeared. Same thing with front end collision error.

SOS call malfunction message
Found some posts in this forum that sos malfunction message may be related to bluetooth connection.
Bluetooth of my phone (android version 8) was also shutting down quite often disconnecting from iDrive. So, I did some search and found that selecting bluetooth AVRCP version 1.4 in your android's settings often takes care of this connection problem. Today, sos malfunction message came back on, and my phone wasn't connecting well with iDrive. After changing the AVRCP version in my android settings, sos malfunction message that came back on today is gone, and now seems like my phone has stable bluetooth connection with iDrive. I'm hoping this solved my issues... |

Sorry guys, what I wrote in my previous post didn't last for two days. Today, sos malfunction message came back on. I guess I'll just have to let the BMW dealership update the software or do whatever to solve the sos malfunction message thing and also about unstable bluetooth connection with my phone.
This is so irritating because all of the codings done will be erased from the update and I'll need re-coding...: |
