2016 640i m sport gran coupe exhaust flap

Hey guys. Quick one.

I use a Veepeak OBD2 adaptor and BimmerCode.
Heard there's a way to open your exhaust flap manually through a different system called bimmerlink. Is this true? Will my adaptor work with bimmerlink as well?

Vehicle is bone stock and I have noticed i can never get a good cold start since the car always has it closed until it reaches the right temperature and in sport mode..

Any info is appreciated!!

Hey guys, also have another question.

I am interested in doing a resonator delete. Just want a little bit more sound from the exhaust. I love the tone how it is stock and love the burbles.

I'm not sure if this is a dumb question or not...

Yes...you can see/read it for yourself at their website. Just click following link then scroll down to see a quick reference to what the app offers (you don't have to click the download links at the top of the page): https://www.bimmerlink.app/

You can also see which adapters work with Bimmerlink by clicking on the link to the OBD adapters the app uses (scroll down to bottom of page at link above).

The only hiccup you may run into is...I think Bimmerlink requires an IOS device...so I'm not sure why they have a link to download for Android devices.

For my 650i, I use both BimmerCode and BimmerLink. You can turn on/off/auto exhaust flaps through BimmerLink, but it always adjusts back to close when you turn off the vehicle. So you'll just have to use the app every time you want it open.

I use the same Bluetooth adapter as you, it works fine.

I just flashed Bootmod3 stage 2 as well and that has an option to open exhaust valves when the car is put in Sport/Sport+ which is a little more convenient.

Edit: the exhaust valve open in sport/sport+ mode isn't working

I've replaced my exhaust with an m6 one and there wasn't even anything to disconnect/connect. I will check my 640i exhaust again, but pretty sure it does not have it.

I think the LCI 6 cyl could be optioned with an exhaust with flap...so i would recommend using one of the online part database sites...enter your VIN...then go to the exhaust diagram and see if there are two mufflers listed...one with and one without the flap. ]

If you use the last 7 digits of your VIN, the database will list if the muffler with the exhaust flap was offered. If only one exhaust is listed (without flap) you’ll have your answer easy peasy.

Check database using VIN to see if you have a muffler with exhaust flaps as an option
Pre LCI 640 - no, right muffler NOT offered w/exhaust flap: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...61#18307646939
LCI 640 - yes, Right muffler offered w/exhaust flap: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...61#18308643636

Thanks, Qsilver7! The difference between flap must be lci vs non-lci.

Qsilver7, that was very informative as I also have a 640I that I am trying to upgrade for a more throatier sound. I also want the quad rear look. I noticed when underneath the car that I don't have the flap on the right side. Do anyone have any hints for me to upgrade to the quad rear look and a more throatier exhaust sound?

Get the valence from BMW dealer . Only 200$ or less .. that gives u the quad opening.then get the center diffuser piece .. you can also get the plastic one that comes on the m6 convertible..it's cheaper then the carbon fiber ones ..after that just swap out your 640 mufflers with m6 ones .. leave flaps open and u good ..

Another simple option is just to wire or zip tie the valve on the right side open. My 640 is stock and does not have a muffler on the right side, resonator only, and after I wired The valve open it sounds amazing! Burbles in sport mode.

Question. So where exactly is the exhaust flap located? I want to upgrade my exhaust to the quad look and have the diffuser and lower section en route.
I also have my set of Maxton Splitters on pre order and waiting to ship. I have a '17 f06 gran coupe m sport and the next mod on the list is the exhaust. Is the exhaust flap inside the muffler or just before located somewhere in the pipe?
I'm torn between the eisenmann sport axlebacks and the m sport axleback mufflers. The eisenmann mufflers have the quad tips, so no further modification required. Just cut the pipe and remove the old exhaust and slap the new ones on. The M performance mufflers require you to get the Y tips which are not a true quad exhaust setup, but it gets the job done.

I used to have the m performance mufflers on my ,16 535I f10 and they were the perfect balance of sporty sound when needed and quiet enough to retain its luxurious allure.

But if I swap the stock ones out, do I lose the exhaust flap?

AFAIK, the N55 does not have a flap. The 650 and M6 have flaps. The 650 is shown in the attached screenshot. It's on the inner tailpipe.

See post #8...this mystery has already been solved. There are direct links to the part database that gives the part nbr for the right muffler for the LCI N55 that has the exhaust flap. So it depends on your build date if you have an exhaust flap on your 640.

adding a downpipe while having a 640i with a msport exhaust. will sound waay better than trying to cut the exhaust resonator.

Anyone know how the exhaust flap on the LCI 640 work? Meaning can I retrofit m6 comp mufflers and still retain the valve function? Maybe even run a "Y" line to the muffler on the left to get that valve going?
