What brake pad for 640i f13
My car maintenance said to me change rear pads in 1180 miles.
First what's the genuine bmw brand for the brake pads? Then I just need to change the brake pad or I need to replace also the sensor brake and the Spring brake too? Thks |

I much prefer the non BMW pads, specifically the EBC Red Stuff ceramics.....they produce so little brake dust it makes a massive difference to wheel cleaning! Just the one sensor need replacing, they are different lengths front and back with the back being longer, nothing else needs changing and you should get shims included. Also grease the bolt covered in the rubber boot, forgot what it's called.

Don't believe the sensor. It is a "dumb" system that is not measuring the thickness of your pads. If you cannot just look yourself, have someone you trust measure the remaining thickness of your pads.

No need to grease any parts or other?
Just remove the wheel, two bolts for the brake caliper and disconnect parking brake, remove caliper and hang in on with a cord Remove old brake pads change them and remove old sensor and put the new one. No need to do anything else? |

Depending on whether you are doing the fronts or rears you will have to tackle the handbrake piston, which is simply wound with a screw of some description. I normally grease the sliding bolt with the rubber boot on it as well and apply anti-seize to the caliper bolts and the backs of the pads. No different to most other brands.
