S63TU rod bearing maintenance
Hi all,
I know the S65/S85 motors were cursed with the rod bearing issue. Does my 2015 m6 (s63tu) have the same issues? Just want to make sure before I do any unnecessary maintenance. If so, at what mileage should I look to replace them? Thanks |

There’s not much maintenance that can be done except frequent oil changes. There’s a design flaw with these engines that doesn’t allow a lot of oil in between the journals. Bearing issues have been seen at on brand new engines and engines with 90k miles. It’s a gamble.

From what I heard with these engines there is no rod bearing issues just lack of maintenance I believe 15k is way to long to change the oil , I change my own oil @ every 2500 to 3k and been using 5w40 for the last couple years
The oil gets very very thin when it gets hot at normal temp range,it’s basically as thin as water, so imagine pushing the car hard how thin it the oil gets . When the oil gets so thin it’s being pushed out of the Rod bearing and not lubricating The bearings are getting worn when the engine gets hot and when the wrong viscosity is being used and long oil change intervals . |
